What does a handmade acoustic guitar have to do with water purification? More than you might think.

A few visitors to our Open Days asked why there was a guitar hanging in a water purification workshop.

It was made from scratch by our Technical Director, Matt. He also designed and built his own valve amplifier, teaching himself advanced electronics and precision soldering along the way.

Matt’s precision, attention to detail, and an insistence on getting things right - everything from product design to choice of components, to our engineering and installation methods - influences everything we do at Water Freedom.

Our systems combine water, electricity and the responsibility of making contaminated water safe to drink. There isn’t much room for “that’ll do”.

Since I created the first Water Freedom system 11 years ago, we’ve seen plenty of copies. We’ve also seen what happens when the details aren’t understood: melted switches and cables, fire damage, electric-shock risks, badly installed UV systems and incorrect filtration.

Anyone can copy the basic concept.

Understanding why every component is there, engineering it properly and caring about the details is a different matter.

That guitar was on display because craftsmanship isn’t just about making beautiful things.

It’s an example of caring about getting things right.

Friday evening at the Water Freedom Open Days event - part of the Markfield Road Festival.

We’ll be opening up the workshop again today and tomorrow 2pm to 6pm to show what we make and answer your questions.

The other makers and creators in the building will also be opening their studios to show what they do. There are artists, photographers, printers…there are ceramics, sculpture, leather goods, clothes.

WATER FREEDOM OPEN DAYS STARTS TODAY!

We’re opening up our Tottenham workshop for the Markfield Road Festival this weekend.

Come and see what actually goes into a Water Freedom system. We’ll have our full range on display, systems in build, and we’ll be on hand to answer your questions about how our systems work and what’s involved in fitting one to your boat.

There’s plenty happening beyond our workshop too…food, drink, music and activities, while the other makers and creators at Gaunson House open their studios to show what they make.

We’re opening the doors to the Water Freedom workshop next weekend as part of the Markfield Road Festival. If you’ve ever wondered about how and where we build our systems, come and have a look. We’ll have the complete range to see including the portable Water Freedom Cube and the Water Freedom Smart, as well some systems ‘in build’ so you can see what goes into them.

The Markfield Road Festival is a great event with music, food and activities for all ages. Gaunson House is an amazing creative hub, so as well as visiting us, all of the other studios in our building will be open and showing art, photography, textiles, ceramics and other crafts.

It’s raining and looks like might rain for a while! Like, continuously for a week or more.

Looks like our post yesterday, letting people know that we’d prioritise installation of a Water Freedom system for people stuck without water, seems to have triggered the start of sustained rain.

With this change in the weather, it’s a good time to reflect on what an incredible summer we’ve had, but boy did we need this rain, so this is hugely welcome.

No idea how long it’ll take the lakes, reservoirs and rivers that feed the network to bring canal levels back to normal, but hopefully some of the restrictions will be lifted soon.
