Ascension Island service complete!

The systems here take water from a 180 year old infrastructure conceived and constructed by Charles Darwin and Col Brandreth of the Royal Engineers between 1836 and 1850. They had the idea of coating the surface of the volcanic crater at the top of the island’s Green Mountain with concrete to act as a funnel for rainwater and to condensed cloud and channel it to a well. Its water from this well that were purifying on Ascension. See our earlier posts and the Projects page on WaterFreedom.net for more details.

Water Freedom’s Matt is back on Ascension Island to service our installation there and has just sent some stunning photos of Ascension’s lunar like landscape. Higher up the mountain, above about 700 metres, the barren, dry, dusty landscape gives way to something more like tropical rainforest. Take a look at our earlier reels with videos of the landscape and our installation there.

The two Water Freedom systems we installed last April take water from an infrastructure originally designed in the 19th century by Charles Darwin with help from Col Brandreth of the Royal Engineers.

The big Water Freedom systems are throttled back to maximise lead removal and to allow the UV arrays to deal with the very high bacterial load, but even with the restrictions we’ve implemented, between them, they can produce almost 4 tonnes of water per hour.

Another rooftop pool…

Amy’s solution to cooling off on the hottest days. Rooftop pool filled using her Water Freedom system…and of course, a bottle of chilled bubbly.

The UK heatwave has boaters getting creative.

Water Freedom customer Dan has come up with an ingenious heatwave hack. He’s been using his Water Freedom system to spray cleaned canal water onto the roof of his boat to keep it cool inside.

As the water evaporates, it removes heat from the surface - exactly the same principle that helps cool your body when you sweat.

A simple idea, powered by the Water Freedom system, and a great example of practical boating ingenuity.
