Coventry’s Chef Sophie Hyam Competes in the Final of Kraft Heinz Masters of the Menu 2025

Coventry’s culinary veteran Sophie Hyam has reached the final of Kraft Heinz’s first-ever national culinary competition. She is one of five finalists to take part in the competition, created to celebrate and champion independent chefs from across the UK.

In partnership with Great British Menu winner James Cochran and the Craft Guild of Chefs, the finalists will receive personal mentorship from James before competing in a live cook-off at Mission Kitchen on 27 October. The winner will be crowned Master of the Menu 2025, receive £2,000 in cash, £2,000 worth of Heinz product, national PR exposure, and the chance to co-host an exclusive supper club with James Cochran.

With more than 35 years of culinary experience, Sophie Hyam is also a local business owner. Through her ventures Culinary Bites with Sophie and Blondes and Bourbon, she proudly represents Coventry by championing local ingredients, delivering bespoke dining experiences, and sharing her expertise as a food demonstrator and Great Taste Awards judge.

Her dish for the Masters of the Menu final, Umami Inferno: Short Beef Rib with Burnt Carrot BBQ Sauce and Fukujinzuke Pickle, is a slow-cooked celebration of comfort and craft. Using Heinz Tomato Ketchup and Heinz BBQ Sauce as the flavour base, Sophie builds a robust, bourbon-laced braise that delivers depth and complexity, perfectly balanced with the brightness of her house pickle.

Sophie said “I’m incredibly proud to represent Coventry in this competition. As a female business owner, winning would be about more than just personal achievement, it would shine a light on the incredible women leading small businesses across hospitality, and the community that’s supported me every step of the way.”

The Masters of the Menu 2025 final will take place in London on 27th October.

Suffolk’s Stefan Sewell Represents the RAF in the Final of Kraft Heinz Masters of the Menu 2025

Suffolk based Chef Manager at the Royal Air Force has reached the final of Kraft Heinz’s first-ever national culinary competition. Stefan is one of five finalists to take part in the competition, created to celebrate and champion independent chefs from across the UK.

Stefan brings a mixture of fine dining skill, creative flair and military discipline. With over 16 years of culinary experience, Stefan is the founder of Sour Fennel Catering, a private dining company that delivers restaurant-quality dishes to guests’ homes. Alongside this, he serves as a Chef Manager in the Royal Air Force, a role that has shaped his precision in the kitchen.

Stefan’s dish, Yakiniku Glazed Beef Cheek, is a deeply flavoured celebration of Asian fusion cooking. It’s slow-cooked and glazed with a combination of Yakiniku and Heinz Sticky Korean Barbecue Sauce, which adds a sweet and smoky depth to the tender beef and elevates the final glaze to something truly memorable.

“Representing both Suffolk and the RAF in this competition is something I’m really proud of,” says Stefan. “To win would be huge, not just personally, but to show that hard work and passion can lead to opportunities like this. It would be an honour to bring that title home.”

The final cook-off will take place in London on 27th October, where five independent chefs will compete for the title of Masters of the Menu 2025.

Whitstable’s Charlie Askew Competes in the Final of Kraft Heinz Masters of the Menu 2025

Whitstable’s Charlie Askew is this years youngest finalist of Kraft Heinz’s first-ever national culinary competition. He is one of five finalists to take part in the competition, created to celebrate and champion independent chefs from across the UK.

Charlie Askew is this year’s youngest finalist. Hailing from Whitstable, Kent, he is quickly making a name for himself in the local food scene. Charlie began his career at The Chestfield Barn, where he built the foundations of his craft, before moving to Wheelers Oyster Bar, the seaside institution known for its fresh seafood and innovation.

Charlie’s Heinz Hero Dish is a vibrant seafood plate: Salmon with Roast Prawns, Crayfish and Hollandaise. The dish is a clever blend of classic French technique and modern flavour, with Heinz Tomato Ketchup used in a punchy bois boudran sauce, Heinz Sweet Chilli Sauce folded into the crayfish hollandaise, and Heinz Mayonnaise infused with fresh dill to add brightness to the plate.

“Coming from Whitstable, I’ve grown up surrounded by incredible seafood and it’s a big part of who I am as a chef,” Charlie said. “To win this competition would mean the absolute world and prove to myself and those who’ve invested time into me that all the hard graft has been worth it. It would be a huge step in my career and a way to put Kent’s food scene in the spotlight.”

Southampton’s Adam Duebel from Utilita Bowl reaches final of Kraft Heinz’s Masters of the Menu 2025 competition

The head chef from Southampton’s Utilita Bowl has reached the final of Kraft Heinz’s first-ever national culinary competition. Adam Duebel is one of five finalists to take part in the competition, created to celebrate and champion independent chefs from across the UK.

With 12 years in his role, Adam has cooked for international sports stars, major events and top corporate functions. His culinary style blends precision with creativity, making him a familiar figure in both the local food and sports hospitality scenes.

Adam’s competition dish, Pork & Vegetable Spring Rolls with Sesame Rice and Salad, is inspired by the energy of Asian street food markets. Crispy spring rolls are paired with fragrant sesame rice and vibrant salad, brought to life with Heinz Sticky Korean Barbecue Sauce and Heinz Professional Mayonnaise. The sauce adds smoky sweetness and depth, while the mayo offers creamy balance and texture.

“I entered Menu Masters to push myself and raise my profile, but also to inspire the younger chefs in my team to chase opportunities — even when they feel daunting,” said Adam. “Working abroad opened my eyes to new cultures, flavours, and ways of thinking, and it taught me that growth comes from the moments we least expect. The failures along the way have been tough, sometimes even embarrassing, but they’ve also been my greatest teachers. Every setback has shaped the chef I am today I’m genuinely excited to be part of this journey with Heinz — a brand that represents quality, creativity, and a bit of fun.”

Adam will compete on 27 October, joining four other chefs from across the UK to battle it out for the Masters of the Menu 2025 crown.
