@baoziinn_borough invited me to come in and eat dumplings without having to pay for them so that I could let you know they're offering BOGOF on certain dumplings until Oct 10. I willingly said yes because a) I love their food b) just the other day Kate said we should take our daughter for dumplings and c) I love dumplings.
All the dumplings were excellent, as was the char sui and the salt & pepper wings. Really lovely service too. We took two 3 year olds and they had a grand old time. So did we. We'll be back.
PS the dumpling offer is here and at @baoziinn_chinatown.

Look at this. North Indian delights from @raastawala, delivered to your door (gift). I adore Rinku's food and we're local to each other which made me a guinea pig for her new delivery service. Gorgeous chicken biryani and tasty, tasty chicken curry. I couldn't stop eating it, ate too much and had to lie down, and then went to have more as soon as space had shifted in my stomach. If you want that sort of joy in your life, put your order in πŸ’“ @ Honor Oak

They're back tonight, tomorrow and Saturday from 5pm. That keema muttar. Home-cooked Pakistani food made with love.

Christ. What an effort that was. Smoked brisket bun, homemade brioche, pickled chillies, chilli mayo and sauerkraut. A labour of love. But worth it, even if I did feel close to crying every now and again 😬 (the process is on my Stories. It's intense)

Gorgeous bit of brisket from @meatjon in Ladywell who is ridiculously accommodating for things like this. Smoked on my @weberuk. A homage to my favourite smokehouses and a reminder of why smoked meats shouldn't be cheap. This was hard. @ Honor Oak

I don't know what to call this late lunch.
It's pork mince fried in fish sauce, maple syrup and dark soy sauce, with a crispy egg. Rice noodles & accompaniments. I threw some basil in the pork too as it was staring at me and felt excluded I think. I'm a bit obsessed with this three-ingredient mince. So much flavour for such little effort 🌱 @ Honor Oak

What a meal @chefjakefinn πŸ‘πŸΎπŸ‘πŸΎ
Jake turned up at mine earlier when I was flustered and had completely forgotten he was coming. But then I was happy to have a night off cooking and still eat top-notch food.
Jake was about to open a restaurant when *that thing* happened & with plans on hold, he started cooking meals for friends & family. It took off and now he's offering them to everyone. And he got me to try them - it's really good and I'm happy to shout about them.
Black olive glazed lamb chops needed just a couple of mins on the barbecue to get them charred and pink in the middle. Lovely. The tuna ceviche was excellent - really fresh fish and brilliant dressings that take just a minute to put together. And the cheesecake. As soon as my daughter saw it she just stuck her hand it. Couldn't blame her really.
This was all really good. Generous portions and really well thought out. You can order from Jake directly via his page. πŸ’šπŸ’š

Fish & chips from @brockleys_rock, who are open. Probably the best tartare sauce I've ever had (not in shot). And even though I didn't have curry sauce 'til my late 20s/early 30s, the size of the pots theirs comes in makes up for those lost years.

Kate bought loads of nice stuff from @boroughmarket yesterday. Tuna from @furnessfishmarkets and peas, white asparagus & Jersey Royals from @turnipsborough. I ended up cooking it under Kate's instruction while she was on Child Duty. Served it with a lemon, caper, parsley & Maltese evoo sauce and it was perfect. I love it when Kate gets dinner in as she gets completely different things to what I would and it's always excellent. Oh - but she took the piss out of my 80s grill marks, but then she's not as cultured as me 😬

I made a chilli beef noodle soup and all I can think about is the fact I forgot to put the bean sprouts I've been growing for four days. It was tasty though. Gorgeous bones from @meatjon and perked up perfectly by @chunkybuddhagroup's chilli oil which is really tasty, hot and fragrant.
I may make another bowl tomorrow - with the bean sprouts this time - and if I do just pretend you didn't see this one🀫😬

Stop what you're doing and sit down. This is important.
I bring you....sesame prawn toast MADE IN A TOASTIE MAKER.
They're amazing. No need to deep-fry (and you know I'm not afraid of some oil but if I don't need to...)
So easy. Prawns, egg white, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, spring onion, sugar, sesame oil, sesame seeds. Boom. Proper crunch, lovely toasted flavour, delicious.
Have you got a toastie maker lurking in the back of the cupboard? Now's the time to dust it off. Recipe below
πŸ‘‡πŸΎπŸ‘‡πŸΎπŸ‘‡πŸΎπŸ‘‡πŸΎπŸ‘‡πŸΎ
Ingredients (Serves two normal people or one Melissa, as a snack)
3 slices of white bread, crusts removed
200g raw prawns
Β½ egg white
1.5 spring onion, finely chopped
Dash of soy sauce
Dash of sesame oil
1 small clove of garlic, minced
1 tsp ginger, grated
Β½ tsp sugar or maple syrup
Sesame seeds, lightly toasted
Butter
Veg oil

Mince prawns, ginger, garlic, soy sauce, sugar in a food processor or chop by hand til smooth.
Mix in spring onion once blended and chill mixture for 10 minutes.
Turn on toastie maker. On one side of the bread spread with butter and the other side spread with oil.
Spread prawn mixture on sesame oiled side of the bread. Heap it centrally, thinning out as you reach the edges. Pour sesame seeds onto a large plate and press the bread into it, prawn side down.
Oil the toastie maker generously and place bread with the prawn facing up. Close and toast for 6 mins.
Serve with soy sauce and Shaoxing wine dipping sauce.

Conchiglioni with ragu. No idea why stuffed and baked pasta shells taste so good when they're just the classic trio of pasta, sauce & cheese (grana padana today) but it's a combo that takes it to the next level. Love it.
I always get asked for my recipe and finally did it so will post on my Stories later 😘🍝 @ Honor Oak

Rump cap, aka pichana, and chimmichurri. What a duo.
Beef is the same batch from @philip_warren_butchers via @thecornwallproject and is just stunning. Even got a "this is lovely beef" from Kate which is about as good as it gets. It was destined for @blacklockchops, and we savoured ever bit of it.
Fortuitously, @canchelos asked to send me some of their chimmichurri last week so of course that went on, and that too is lovely. Herby, tasty, complementary. What a meal 🌱

Three smashing restaurants doing deliveries and/or collections this at the moment or this weekend.
@sparrow.london is insanely good. Their pepper chicken curry is in my Top 10 dishes and everything was excellent.
@crustbros the sneaking hands say it all
@yenisoho was my last Soho meal pre-lockdown and I was blown away by their food.
Lots of others too. @jerkoffbbq are doing deliveries to all SE postcodes or you can pick up from Deptford (having it for Saturday lunch. I know they say don't wish your life away but: hurry up the weekend).
Had @theospizzeria the other week which was excellent. Get one tiramisu each - if you don't finish it on the night, it makes for the best fridge surprise the following morning).

Rump end (I think) from @philip_warren_butchers via @thecornwallproject. Stunning.
The culmination of lots of special connections - Matt & Scott's dedication for excellent meat, and to keep the supply chain ticking after restaurants closed. This meat was from a rump cap & barrel destined for @blacklockchops. I ordered it on impulse & @4telier - who I've never met before but have followed for years because he's a culinary genius - agreed to go halves.
Eating it made me feel warm for all these reasons but also because it was beautiful. Served with bearnaise, chips and finally, some British asparagus.
Nice one Matt + Scott β˜€οΈ @ Honor Oak

@elliotcunningham you beautiful man with your smoke + fire alchemy.
Had it with crispy potatoes (the only way when eating Lagom, right?) and a charred tomato and red onion salad with asparagus. So happy.

A labour of love, but worth every second. Pork belly ramen. Soup made from pig's trotters + knuckles from @meatjon who is ridiculously accommodating. A separate chicken stock made with bones from the weekend. Then pork belly from @proudsow, a leftover cured yolk from my pasta the other day, homemade noodles from the freezer and accoutrements. I got so excited about the pork belly in the freezer I barely gave any thought to what I'd do with the spare ribs. Well here they are. Patted in Shaoxing wine and then a dry rub. If you've got any wild garlic pesto I thoroughly recommend mixing it with a bit of butter (about 4:1 pesto to butter) and sticking it under the skin before roasting. It's really lovely, and the resultant pan juices make for excellent roast potato fat (along with some extra pork fat we had). Lovely πŸ’₯ @ Honor Oak

Kerala pepper chicken skewers. Been obsessed with the pepper @parameswarans_spl_wynad_pepper sent me a while back. It's got such a nice heat and beautiful fragrance and made me look at pepper in a different way. Pepper chicken is a dry curry but I wanted to mix it up for the warmer weather, having it skewers with the onions and gravy underneath. Served with raita and kachumber. It's so so good. Would love to do this over coals 😍

Claire @apieparty thank you so much for my brownie tray #gift. It really made me laugh 🍫
Claire is rolling out personalised brownie trays to the WHOLE of the country and they're the gooiest, most chocolatey delights ever.
Swipe for my message - Claire asked me what message I'd like. I chose one, then forgetting what I'd asked for so I had a bit of a chuckle when it arrived.
Order these for yourself or a mate and cheer yourselves up. Seriously. And they freeze too so you can ration them πŸ₯° @ Honor Oak

My Teriyaki Chilli Wings. Close to my heart + a popular choice at my pop ups. Sweet, sharp, umami - they covered all bases.
This one is for @saimathompson, who asked for the recipe & was always a massive supporter of my events. She'd even order seconds of these.

RECIPE:
Before I share it, can I ask a favour? Saima is about to start a new treatment for lung cancer. It's self-funded and she has a fundraising page.
If you donate at least Β£1.50 to it (link in my profile), I'll send you the recipe. If you can't afford that - and these are difficult times so it's totally understandable - then share Saima's fundraising page on your socials instead.
Either message me a photo of your donation, or if you share it let me know and I'll come and look. Then I'll send it to you.
Either way, if as many people as possible share Saima's fundraising page anyway, that would be wicked. Peace out you beauties πŸ₯°

The spice, the yoghurt, the butter. A godly trinity of flavour.
Lamb & beef from @meatjon, spiced (details in Stories), and leftover wild garlic yoghurt. The butter was foaming and gave a brilliant nuttiness. I find dumpling folding so cathartic and eating them just...perfect πŸ’š

Sheng jian bao that shouldn't have worked for so many reasons but thank buggery they did. These were, all modesty aside, really good.
The pork mix was from a batch that's been sitting in the freezer for at least 6 months. Knowing I'd possibly want to freeze it again, I'd used a chocolate truffle mould to freeze them in loads of little domes. And then last night I thought I'd try and use the alkaline noodle dough from yesterday's ramen for the skins (because I can't roll a decent dumpling skin for love nor money; I'm no @hellolisalin, sadly πŸ₯ŸπŸ‘‘). It worked and resulted in perfect little dumplings that we drenched in homemade chilli oil, chinkiang vinegar and spring onions - like the time me & @jozurowskaleigh ate all of Williamsburg, starting with the dumplings in spicy sauce at Vanessa's Dumpling House. Ah man. What happy days β˜€οΈ

Curry ramen! Been hankering after one for ages and today, it happened. Made this to the taste memory of a curry noodle soup I had years ago in Kamukura. And it was bang on..so happy with it.
Onions, carrot, garlic, ginger base, blitzed in the food processor + cooked off, then cumin, coriander, tumeric, fenugreek and garam masala. Soy sauce, a touch of maple syrup, plus the chicken stock from the kara-age bones. Sieved. Homemade alkaline noodles. I'm so content. So happy.

This has been a long time coming. Andy Stubbs (ably assisted by Donna Church) has out blood, sweat and tears into Low 'N' Slow (not into the actual food though, chill) and now it's time for their restaurant.
