In moments such as these it is all too easy to drift into cliché, but it is with sadness, and through the lens of reality rather than hope, that we write to let you know that after seven years and many thousands of bottles of wine, we have decided to shut down the Drop app on Monday 6th May.
Ultimately with Drop we aimed to be a place where wine enthusiasts could come and explore the world we love so much, and share the wines we’re passionate about with people of similar interests in a new and, dare we say it, efficient manner. Good wine for impatient people, really. Sadly as we have aimed to expand we have needed to morph into a tech-heavy business that is ill-suited to us.
As much as we would like to have pushed on, turning ourselves into a tech platform was not something we ever set out to do nor, it turns out, is it something we are good at, let alone qualified for.
We couldn’t be more grateful for all of your support, enthusiasm, entertaining emails and messages, competition entries, wonderful company at the various Drop bars across London (which do remain open, we should add), and a great deal more besides. Thank you for seven fun, frustrating, entertaining and challenging years.
