Cake it till you make it

Happy birthday to meeee!

Think it’s dopamine-coloured enough?!

My husband and twin lads are away this weekend - one of my sons is getting married in a few weeks and they’re on his stag do. Don’t feel bad for me on my own with the doggo though on my birthday - I’m having a fab time doing what the hell I like! Plus, we went out for a celebratory meal midweek.

I’ve done some sewing, some painting, some sorting of cupboards and drawers (soo cathartic!), cake making (natch!) and some very long walks with the dog.

Zest assured 🍊

Caramelised satsumas and oranges atop a dairy-free olive oil cake.

Rather inconveniently for Instagram, I think I’ve finally perfected this cake. Time to lock down the recipe once and for all. This would be wonderful news for you all as I was intending to share, but it’s so lovely I’m thinking it deserves a place in my book plan.

So I’m not sharing right now. Sorry.

On a wave of degustation

Pappardelle with an arrabbiata sauce… and with an entirely unnecessary but totally fun wave design.

Vitamin Sea

A cheeky week away. We’ve had quite a lot of rain but it seems to be on the turn now ☀️

Ruby doesn’t care and we’ve come prepared for a downpour (it is the UK) so all’s good and this afternoon’s sun has been a bonus.

Not long left now, so thoroughly making the most of it. It’s been a fabulously restorative break.

Down the rabbit hole

For my today (132/365_2026) I painted the white rabbit I have on my tote bag.

Those of you who have been following me for a long time g time know that I made this bag myself a few years ago (I occasionally do leatherwork) and drew the white rabbit on it.

It’s been a line drawing all that time and I always meant to paint him in, so I’ve finally got round to it.

The reel shows a little of my progress ❤️ 🐇

Heaven scent

I love, love lilac season. That scent, the softness of the blossoms when you touch them, their pretty florets and that incredible range of whites into purples and burgundies. What a lovely, lovely, plant it is.

I could not resist making madeleines with this year’s lilacs. These little, pretty bites have a butterfly blue pea flower sponge made with lilac sugar and lilac petals and white chocolate shells in three colours.

It’s better to help people than garden gnomes

It’s 25 years this month since the release of Amélie - my favourite film - so expect a few more references 🩷

This couronne was what I made with the new flour I bought from (posted on my highlights this morning). It’s lovely flour. This couronne has a bucket of poppyseeds in.
