People often say you can’t understand someone until you’ve walked in their shoes. My shoes have taken me down many paths, some winding, some straight, some leading me exactly where I needed to be, and others teaching me hard lessons.
I’ve traveled in search of more than just a new address. I’ve been looking for community, for a place to belong. And while there have been moments of connection and welcome, not every path is clear…
Sometimes you arrive with open hands and still get hurt. Sometimes you’re passed by, not because of who you are, but because others are on their own path. They’re carrying their own hopes, needs, and reasons when they meet someone new, and sometimes those simply don’t align with who you’ve been all along.
Still, every step, whether joyful or painful, has shaped me. It’s taught me to notice the places and people where I feel safe, valued, and part of something real. And those are the places I’ll always keep walking toward.
