We have officially named all of the new arrivals, this is Derry the little freemartin heifer that was born in the early hours of Monday morning, despite her rough start, and it was really touch and go to begin with, she’s a darling and she’s getting stronger every day!

Oh what a start to calving 2026! First off we have twins born when the wind is blowing so cold it feels like the Baltic 🥶 mum decided she doesn’t need a spare so poor heifer calf was still wet and half frozen when we found her. To weak to suck so she had a tube straight to her stomach, wrapped up in a jacket and cozy in the boot of the car.
Get them into a warmer pen out the wind but little miss still struggling to workout how this feeding is supposed to work and would rather chew the teat than drink milk, another go with the tube to keep her strength up.
Then someone has the brain wave is the teat too hard to drink off so necessity is the mother of innovation and a marigold washing up glove was fashioned into a milk teat, needless to say we have 4 happy calves, yes 2 more cows ‘popped’ giving us a grand total of 4 in the first 24h of calving 2026.

And 3 more bagged up and due any minute!!

It’s all GO GO GO!!!
