We've come to the end of the winter sheep grazing season for another year, they started on the Osr middle of December and finished on the wheat 28th feb. We grazed all our Osr and most of our wheats just leaving a few of the earlier drilled fields.
Grazing sheep has many benefits to the crop, they will eat any leaves which may have disease present and then the plant will grow a healthy new leaf which will reduce our fungicide use, also reducing the cover at this stage will allow us to reduce the use of growth regulators and will promote tillering. The sheep will also do some nutrient recycling and convert crop into manure which is great for soil health 🐑💩🌾

We have been busy this month stitching in grass, clover and herb mixes into our grazing platforms.
This is to refresh the leys add abit more diversity and make them more resilient and productive.

Diverse leys including Grasses, Legumes and Herbs have the ability to.
