A lot of people have asked me why I’m so particular about the ingredients that go into my flapjacks.
Part of the answer is that before L.A.D Slab ever existed, I worked at Boddington’s Preserves.
For the best part of 2 years, I was surrounded every day by jars of jam, marmalade and chutneys being made using traditional recipes and high quality ingredients. I got to see first hand how much care goes into creating a product that people genuinely love, and it taught me that great food starts with great ingredients. That experience has stayed with me.
When I started making my own flapjacks for L.A.D Slab, I knew I wanted the same approach. I didn’t want to cut corners or use ingredients just because they’re cheaper. If something goes into a slab, it needs to deserve its place there.
That’s one of the reasons I use Boddington’s jam in some of my slabs.
It also feels like a natural fit for another reason. The flapjack recipe I use came from my grandad, and one thing he always believed in was making things properly. He even used to make his own jam. So when I was looking for a jam to use in my business, it made sense to choose one made by a family run business that still values traditional recipes and quality ingredients.
My grandad’s recipe is where L.A.D Slab began, but my time at Boddington’s helped shape the standards I have for every slab I make today.
Because when you’ve seen what goes into making a premium product, it’s hard to settle for anything less. ゚
