Engagement party: Part 1 - the cake 🎂💍

Cake by Regency Cakes (wedding and party cakes in Cambridgeshire) - Exning, Suffolk.

We sent over an idea. They brought it to life better than we ever imagined. 🥹

A golf themed engagement cake for two people who love a round - complete with a fondant putting green, sand bunker, golf bag and clubs, our initials C&J on the flag and “Just Engaged” piped around the side. Every single detail was perfect.

And the taste matched the look… a moist chocolate layered cake with fondant icing that fed all 40 of our guests… and more!😅 Chocolate heaven from the very first slice to the very last.

If you’re in Suffolk and looking for a cake maker who truly listens to your vision and delivers beyond expectation - Regency Cakes is your answer. We couldn’t be happier with it 🙌

Yorkshire Diaries: Part 3 - the one where I found out it wasn’t just a birthday trip 💍🥂

The Grand, York - York, Yorkshire.

I thought Joshua had booked a birthday treat. He had slightly bigger plans 😅

We stayed two nights at The Grand - York’s only five star hotel, right in the heart of the city and walking distance from everything - and it was the most perfect way to celebrate our engagement. Beautiful spacious rooms overlooking the city, and that classic grand architecture that makes you feel instantly special the moment you arrive.

The afternoon started with a spa session and full body massage - absolute heaven after days of hiking the Dales. We came back to our room to find a complimentary bottle of fizz waiting for us for my birthday 🥂 Such a lovely touch from the hotel.

Then we dressed up for dinner at The Rise - an AA Rosette restaurant and every course earned it. We started with Whitby crab cocktail (complete with caviar 👌) and creamy garlic mushrooms, plus sourdough with butter. For mains we both went for the ribeye steak, medium rare, melt in the mouth perfection - so juicy it barely needed the beef jus alongside it. Truffle and Parmesan fries because obviously 🍟

Too full for dessert, but the kitchen sent out chocolates to celebrate our engagement. Completely spoiled and every second of it deserved 🥹

Already planning our first anniversary trip back 🙌

Yorkshire Diaries: Part 2 - our first dinner as an engaged couple 💍🥂

– Litton, Yorkshire Dales.

A five minute walk from our Airbnb, rain hammering down outside, and this 17th century whitewashed inn waiting at the end of the road. Could not have been more perfect.

The Queens Arms is a proper Dales pub - family run since 2019 by Michelle and Matthew, with all the locals, friendly staff and their own on-site brewery, The Lamb Brewing Company, producing ales right behind the pub. The kind of place that wraps itself around you the moment you walk in 🙌

We shared the gyozas and garlic mushrooms to start before moving onto mains - I went for their homemade steak and Litton ale pie with chips, Joshua had the steak and chips. Both cooked beautifully, empty plates all around. The pie is award winning and I can completely see why - genuinely outstanding comfort food.

And the loveliest touch, the team surprised us with a glass of Prosecco to celebrate our engagement 🥹 Little moments like that stay with you. Thank you so much!

First attempt at carrot cake and I am so proud of this one 🥕🎉

I’ve been wanting to attempt baking a carrot cake for a while and finally had a chance to do it - I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.

Moist sponge, the perfect level of warmth and spice, and a satisfying crunch from the walnuts throughout. The cream cheese frosting had me nervous (I was convinced I’d wake up to a collapsed cake) but it held its shape beautifully and piped like a dream 🙌

Topped with crushed walnuts and little marzipan carrots because the details matter 🥕

Another Jane’s Patisserie recipe - at this point I might as well be a brand ambassador 😅 If you’re looking for a foolproof carrot cake recipe, hers is the one. Credit to Jane Dunn as always!

Move over Aperol Spritz - there’s a new summer drink in town 🍎🥂

Pomme Blushe Apple Aperitif – Pomme Blushe

AD | Gifted ✨

It feels like forever since something genuinely different landed in the drinks world and then Pomme Blushe arrived and honestly, where has this been all my life?

Made from seasonal bittersweet orchard apples, this is a proper apple aperitif that actually tastes like fresh apples. Not artificial, not overly sweet - just beautifully crisp and refreshing. I made a Pomme Blushe Spritz in the sunshine and it was the perfect summer drink. Light, fruity and so easy to sip 🌞

At £19.95 a bottle it’s a brilliant alternative to your usual summer tipple and honestly a talking point every time you pour it. If you love a spritz, you need to try this one 🙌

Yorkshire diaries: Part 1 - earning your lunch 🥾🍺

Lister Arms Malham – Malham, Yorkshire.

Janet’s Foss → Gordale Scar → Malham Cove. Legs absolutely gone. Hunger very much present. The Lister Arms at the top of the village could not have looked more inviting 😅

A Grade II listed former coaching inn built in 1723, all roaring fire, cosy corners and board games to keep you entertained while you wait - exactly the kind of pub you want to fall into after a big hike!

We started with the focaccia bread and oil - it came out as a different bread but honestly it was still really lovely, no complaints!
For mains I went for the Cumberland sausage with mash, greens and onion gravy - the most perfect comfort food after a long walk, absolutely delicious. Joshua had the beef burger with triple cooked chips - the burger was tasty but the chips were a bit of a let down, lacking the crispiness you’d hope for from a triple cook.

Overall a really lovely stop and we left full and happy - which is all you really need after a day in the Dales 🙌

AA 4 Star Inn and 1 AA Rosette and a well deserved TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice 2026 winner too!
