🥳3 YEARS OF THE PROTEIN SHED 💙
Three years ago, The Protein Shed started with an idea, one small food van and a decision to give it everything I had.
Looking back at these photos now is mad, because people see what the business is becoming today, but they don’t always see what it took to get here.
For the first 18 months of running the business, I was still working nights. I’d finish a night shift, come back and work on The Protein Shed, then do it all again. Throughout 2024 and into 2025, there were times I was surviving on two hours’ sleep, working seven days a week and doing whatever was needed to make sure we stayed open.
Generators broke. Equipment failed. Things went wrong constantly. Some weeks felt like we were taking two steps forward and one step back.
But one thing we never stopped doing was showing up.
Every bit of money the business made went straight back into making it better. Better equipment. Better branding. Better food. Better service.
In 2024, we invested in a much bigger van for Newport to increase productivity and keep up with demand. We then took another risk and opened our second location in Cwmbran town centre.
In 2025, we pushed the business even further. We invested in our own Protein Water, taking an idea from an early design to thousands of cans, pallets of stock and seeing our own product sitting in fridges alongside some of the biggest drink brands.
Eventually, I made one of the biggest decisions of the journey — leaving my job and putting everything into The Protein Shed full time.
Since then, we’ve continued investing.
More vans. Our own delivery vehicles. Branded fridges. More prep meals. More stockists. Better systems. And most importantly, more people joining the team.
What started as a family team of 6 has grown to 12 members of staff, and we’re now preparing to almost double that as we take our biggest step yet…
Two permanent Protein Shed shops are coming. 💙
That means more investment, a bigger operation and, something I’m especially proud of, creating more local jobs and opportunities.
There have been losses, mistakes, sleepless nights and plenty of moments where things could have gone the other way. But every lesson has gone back into building something stronger.
Through everything, our priorities haven’t changed:
Quality food. Great customer service. Consistency. And turning up every single day.
I genuinely believe most businesses start the same way — with an idea and somebody willing to keep going long enough to make that idea real.
Today, The Protein Shed turns 3 YEARS OLD. 🎂
From that first little van…
To two locations…
To our own drinks…
To prep meals stocked across South Wales…
To a growing team and fleet…
And now to two shops being built.
And I still feel like we’re only getting started.
To every customer who has bought a meal, ordered from us, visited the vans, picked up a Protein Water, recommended us or supported us online — thank you.
To our staff, my family and my friends who have helped behind the scenes when nobody else could see it — thank you.
None of this happens without you.
