Comprising of 138 holdings and 43 woodland parcels throughout Montgomeryshire, Radnorshire and Breconshire, The Powys County Farms Estate is the largest of its kind in Wales and the fifth largest in the UK.
Powys County Farms holdings range in size from 2 acres to 200 acres. A ‘holding’ will include a farmhouse, farm buildings and land. Most holdings are currently let as stockrearing units but there are some 20 dairy holdings on the Estate. In addition several tenants have developed horticultural enterprises and the County Council will support diversified or ‘added value’ enterprises where these are appropriate to the property. Tenants are encouraged to develop and expand their businesses with a view to moving to larger farms either within the County Farms Estate or in the private sector. The Estate is managed by an in-house team, which forms part of the Council’s Corporate Property Service.
