It’s been a little while since I last posted. You don’t realise how quickly time flies when you’re busy!
Farming is one of my greatest joys. It’s my sanctuary in so many ways, especially for my mental health. I love spending time with the ewes and lambs, even on the days when there’s nothing planned and I’m simply checking on them.
Of course, farming has its downsides too. Lambing is one of the most exhausting times of the year, and even more so when you experience losses. We bring new life onto the farm and do everything we possibly can to give every ewe and lamb the very best care. Unfortunately, despite all our efforts, nature can sometimes have other plans.
This year we lost some lambs during lambing, we sadly lost a Molly lamb after weaning when she became caught in a fence, and we also lost a ewe to mastitis. Those losses hit me hard. Every ewe, ram and lamb deserves the very best life possible, and when things don’t go the way you hope, it really does affect you. The good days will always outweigh the hard ones, but that doesn’t mean the hard ones don’t stay with you.
Since my last update, all of the ewes have been shorn, and the lambs have been wormed and treated against flies. We’ll be weaning the lambs once the temperatures drop a little, as it’s been incredibly hot here and their welfare always comes first. We’re also currently treating another ewe for mastitis and keeping a close eye on her.
Here’s a little video with snippets from the last month or so. I haven’t taken many photos or videos recently because, if I’m honest, we’ve just been busy living in the moment and enjoying the good days.
