🌷 Happy Mother's Day!🌷

We made the most of the beautiful spring weather yesterday and celebrated a day early!

We took a short drive from The Arches at Larklands Luxury Holiday Barns to the magnificant Bowes Museum. Although my Dad had visited several years ago he had never seen the famous mechanical silver swan working, so it was a pleasure to see his delight when at 2pm he finally managed to see it in operation.

We followed our trip to the museum with a little mooch around Barnard Castle and a visit to two of my favourite interiors shops 😉

A little walk around the farm before out for dinner at our wonderful village pub The Bay Horse at Ravensworth , for a superb meal as always. 😋

Looking for a break in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales over Easter? 🐣

The Arches is a 16th century converted barn situated in the heart of a working farm on the outskirts of the pretty village of Ravensworth, just 5 miles from the market town of Richmond.

The barn sleeps 7 over 3 bedrooms. One double room, one twin room and an en-suite king size master bedroom with single day bed.

A large well equipped kitchen and dining area means that the property is ideal for socialising, sharing meals together or even a family board games night.

A comfortable and spacious living area with exposed beams, large arched window and additional velux windows ensures the room is bright and airy.

We also welcome up to 2 well behaved dogs.

The Arches is ideally located for exploring the Yorkshire Dales Nstional Park, County Durham and Teesdale.

Its been a beautiful day for a walk, so we took a bright and frosty constitutional around the Easby Loop!

Staring from The Station at Richmond, it's a scenic gentle stroll to Easby Abbey, we stopped off at the wonderful , where we received a warm welcome. It's a fabulous place to grab a bite to eat and a drink while enjoying the view. We can highly recommend the smash burger and the Easby Loop bap! 😋

Then follow the river back to the Station, where, in our case, we stopped for desert at Archers ice cream parlour!🍦🍧

All followed by a wander around Ricmond to burn off some of the calories. 😉

The Arches at Larklands Luxury Holiday Barns is situated just 5 miles from the beautiful North Yorkshire market town of Richmond and on the edge of the stunning Yorkshire Dales National Park.

The barn comfortably sleeps up to 7 guests over 3 bedrooms and we accept up to 2 well behaved dogs.

With a large kitchen space, we have everything you need to prepare dinner for the big day, including a Rangemaster Range, slow cooker, steamer and double air fryer.

After dinner why not relax in the comfortable living area and watch a Christmas movie or play board games around the dining table?

Lovely day spent having a nosey around the Bowes Museum. Just 15 minutes drive from The Arches at Larklands Luxury Holiday Barns, it's well worth a visit.

Dating back to 1892 it houses many works of art including Canaletto, Goya and Van Dyck. Make sure you're there at 2pm for the daily display of the famous silver swan in action.

Unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to wander around the grounds due to the typical wet November weather, but visited the restaurant instead, which we can highly recommend for a good pot of tea and a slice of cake! 🍰

Happy Halloween from here at The Arches! 🎃

Today we made a visit to Egglestone Abbey en route to Barnard Castle. We spent a good half hour or so having a mooch around. It's well worth a visit if you are passing.

However, the abbey and nearby bridge are reputed to be haunted by a mad monk. Legend has it that the young monk fell in love with the daughter of a local mill owner. After she died he was so consumed by grief that he drowned himself in the river. He is reportedly seen in a brown habit perpetually searching the riverbank for his lost love. 👻🎃

Fortunately, there were no signs of any ghostly goings on this afternoon, although I'm pleased we were there in daylight! 😉

Egglestone Abbey is owned by English Heritage. It's free to visit and car parking is available. It's just a 12 minute drive from The Arches.

We're just back from a break staying with my Dad in my hometown of Bridlington.
Although not local to The Arches, if any of our followers are in the Bridlington area then I can highly recommend a visit to at Sewerby.

Originally built and owned by friends of my parents, it is now in the ownership of Rachel and she and her friendly staff work tirelessly to ensure the gardens and the village are kept s***k and span.

Do pop in if you're in the area. You'll receive a warm welcome and a quiz relating to things to spot around the village. After a wander around there's a lovely little tea room too. We can highly recommend the cream teas and carrot cake!! 😛🍰🫖
