New pen day 🐓

I know I’m certainly biased but these girls don’t half have a better life than most 🥚

Moving the pen regularly means:

- Fresh plants to peck 🌱
- New insects to find 🦟
- Leaving nasties behind 🦠
- Fertilising as they go 💩

More diversity in food and added greenery should leave a better egg and give the girls a better life 👍

BEEF BOXES 🥩 📦

To all our wonderful customers who have ordered a beef box for delivery tomorrow you should have heard from us regarding delivery (or should at least real soon) 👂

Those of you who are on our reserve list, we will be in contact as soon as we hear from the butcher as all our meat is delivered fresh and unfrozen ❄️

Those of you who have expressed interest in any individually priced items we will message you as soon as we know what we have 😊

It got us thinking, bulrush? Who’d have thought farmers were trying to grow them to use as insulation? 🐂

Maybe we are sitting on a fortune, though I think it’s unlikely 💴

The wind has taken some small branches off the trees so we thought the hens might appreciate them in their new pen tomorrow. Alongside their usual diet they will have some poplar and willow too. 🌳

Did you know that willow contains a natural compound called salicin which has similar properties as aspirin, historically it has been used for pain relief 🌡️ 🐓

With our first beef boxes for a while going out next week we thought we’d get your thoughts 💭

Anyone who has had a 10kg box from us before will be aware what’s in them but for others here is what we have:

- Roasting joints (topside, top rump, silverside or even a rib,)
- Steaks (sirloin, fillet, rump and braising)
- Mince
- Diced beef
- Pot roast

We wanted to know what you thought, do you like the selection in there at the moment or would you like more of less of anything?

All our boxes are from one animal so unfortunately there is only so much fillet steak available but we may be able to make some changes, please let us know in a comment or send us a direct message 🥩 📦

As I was busy setting up a new pen for the hens I did wonder, what ever happened to that big thistle? 🐓

I know our hens love a peck at grass, sprouted wheat and barley and clover but would they tackle it? 🌱

I tried to get two pictures in the same place and I think we know the answer now don’t we, apparently thistle tastes good too! 😋
