Our hens are safely inside due to Bird Flu being brought here by migrating wild birds which then pass it on to farms. This year’s strain causes severe disease and death to free range hens and other poultry. Because of this the government has decided to make it compulsory for all poultry to be kept inside for a period of time to protect them from bird flu.

Our birds are used to spending time inside their houses (all free range birds go inside at night anyway) they are free to roam around the house with scratching, perching areas and nest boxes. They have continuous access to feed and water. We provide the birds with enrichments and things to do to keep them stimulated and happy.
They will be back outside as soon as they are allowed!

To celebrate why not cook a delicious egg dish, Eggy Bread recipe below - always a favourite in our house! 🥚

Ingredients
4 eggs from our Egg Shed
2 tbsp milk
4 slices of bread
2 tbsps butter
Sweet option - cinnamon, sugar and fresh fruit
Savoury option - salt, pepper and bacon

Method
1. Lightly beat the egg in a shallow bowl along with the milk, seasons with some cinnamon and sugar for a sweet dish or salt and pepper for a savoury version.
2. Dip each slice of bread into the mixture both sides and make sure it’s soaked up some of the mixture.
3. Heat a frying pan and add the butter
4. Once butter is foaming add the bread and fry on each side until golden brown.
5. Transfer onto plate and add fresh fruit for a sweet version or cook some bacon to add for a savoury option

Our new birds have just come into lay and laying some lovely pullet eggs these won’t be around for long as the egg size will start to increase!
Pullet eggs are known for their rich flavour, high yolk-to-white ratio and hold their shape well when cooking. They are very popular with chefs and bakers 🍳
