Friday has historically always been Fish and Chip day and I can think of nowhere I would rather go to for my Fish and Chips than Highlanes in Hayle.
Emma and her team just manage to hit the sweet spot every time… Perfect Fish and Chips every visit… Continuity is King…
Sorry, I digressed… got a bit carried away...
So, Friday, Fish and Chip Day…
And as far as I can remember Thursday has always been Pasty Day….
I’m not sure if it was just the circles that I moved in, I was working on Farms from when I was about 17… And yes, the wheel had been invented back then… Though not all tractors had cabs…
Every Thursday they would send a van into Philps and get one or two pasties for everyone who worked on the Farm… and there was a few of us there then… Wonderful...
So was it just us, or is Thursday Pasty day all over Cornwall?
I left agriculture and went to work on Lighthouses around our coast.
It was during that time that I had the most expensive Pasty ever… It was a McFadden’s Pasty and it was divine….
I wasn’t that McFadden’s were charging too much for their Pasties, it was just we were working on Wolf Rock Lighthouse at the time….
The cost of sending the helicopter from Wolf Rock Lighthouse, to St Just Airfield, get a Transit van to drive to St Just and buy 6 Large Steak Pasties, drive them back to the airport, “load” them onto the Helicopter and fly them back out to Wolf Rock Lighthouse, may seem a little excessive…
But you don’t mess with Pasty Thursday,,,,
And when you have been working offshore for a few weeks… It’s worth it…
So let’s reboot Pasty Thursday…
And what better place to do it than at Dunes, at West Cornwall Golf Club.. Which is open to non members too..
They are the only place that sell “Tater Du Pasties”…

Lovingly hand made in small batches, with fresh British produce. (We are on the lookout for local suppliers of all or veg and meat as we want to buy as locally as possible) with over 100g of prime skirt steak in every Pasty.. These well-seasoned Artisanal Pasties will have you coming back for more.
At the moment we are cooking the Pasties to Order until sales pick up a bit. So, if you order at the Bar when you arrive, feel free to have a drink, sit down and enjoy the ambiance and stunning views from the clubhouse and your piping hot perfectly cooked pasty should be with you in about 45 minutes…
