I don’t think I really need to say any more.

But I will.

This was picked a week ago and somehow just keeps getting better. Picked while still slightly closed, then placed deep in water in a vase, it has now fully opened and there’s still no sign of drooping.

I’m completely obsessed with Astrantia. Quietly elegant, long lasting, and somehow getting more beautiful by the day.

Propagation season feels a little like running a tiny underground nursery laboratory 🌱🪴

My Brown Sugar Dahlia have now been potted on and will stay tucked up for another month or six weeks before heading out into the garden.

I love propagating this way. Being able to clearly see the developing root structure means less disturbance, stronger plants, and a much calmer transition into their next pot. Tiny roots now, towering stems later.

Are you a fan of gladiolus?

Growing up, they always reminded me of Dame Edna and those towering, unapologetically bright spires that felt just a little too loud for my taste.

Then I discovered Indian Summer gladiolus a few years ago and everything changed. The soft milk chocolate tones, dusky peach florets shading to cream, completely won me over.

This year I’ve paired them with Bacarra in its deep ferret-red richness, alongside Cream Perfection to weave the shades together. And finally Mohican, carrying every colour in one glorious stem. Hints of aubergine, flashes of red, all against a creamy backdrop that feels more oil painting than flower bed.

Proof that gladiolus can be elegant, smoky and beautifully complex, far from the garish giants I once imagined.
