Perhaps one of the most elaborate themed wedding cakes I've made. The wonderful bride had ordered her dream Alice in Wonderland cake for her vowel renewal ceremony yesterday. You guessed it, it was one of the hottest days on record. Needless to say, I managed to keep it cool until collection with a lot of prayers and a bit of air conditioning! Well quite a lot actually!

Kim had contacted me last year and I jumped at the chance to create something a little bit different. We went through a couple of designs and reached a decision.

Congratulations to Emma & Nick – married yesterday at The Rose and Crown in Salisbury.

The couple contacted me in 2025 and had some really lovely ideas for what they wanted; moving away from the traditional pale pinks, blues and whites, they instead chose a Caribbean theme with pineapples as centrepieces and vibrant hot orange, yellow and pink flowers.

The cake enhanced their theme with tropical flavours of coconut with zesty lime as well as lemon and Elderflower.

Thank you to Shirley Snells for supplying the flowers, which got a bit of a ‘snip’ and ‘tuck’ before being added to the cake, making sure they were well-protected and preserved for later in the day.

These modern sugar flowers are made from flower paste and wafer paper. The combination of these two mediums gives greater versatility if wanting a flower that's more realistic, lighter and harder to damage. I thought I'd try this out on one of my favourite flowers, the Scabiosa, which is a popular wedding flower if you want to add a whimsical, cottage garden look to your cake or bouquet.
