Sometimes I think we forget how many small businesses are actually just one person.
Naked Larder isn’t a big company. There isn’t a team behind the scenes, or a warehouse full of people packing your orders.
It’s just me.
I choose the products, place the orders, collect the stock, weigh and pack it, answer the messages and emails, keep the spreadsheets up to date, organise collections, write the posts, take the photos, clean up the mess… and then do it all again.
And, if I’m honest, sometimes it’s hard.
There are days when I wonder whether I’m putting too much time, energy and love into something that isn’t quite working yet.
But then someone places an order.
Or someone tells me they’ve been using the same refill for months and loves it.
Or one of my regular customers pops up and says, “I love buying from you.”
And it reminds me why I started Naked Larder in the first place.
I also think it’s easy to forget that behind so many of the independent businesses we use locally, there’s often just a person — or a very small team — doing their absolute best to make it work.
We’re not huge corporations competing for your money. We’re your neighbours. We’re the people you bump into in town, the people whose businesses you’ve watched grow, and the people who are putting our time, energy and passion into keeping something going in our local community.
And that’s why I think shopping locally matters.
Not just because it can reduce packaging and waste, or because you might find something a little different, but because your money is supporting a real person and helping keep independent businesses alive in our community.
So if you’ve ever ordered from Naked Larder, shared one of my posts, recommended me to a friend, or simply stopped to have a chat — thank you. It genuinely means more than you probably realise.
And the next time you’re looking for something, perhaps have a little look around and see if there’s a local independent business that can provide it.
Because every purchase, every booking, every recommendation and every share really does make a difference.
