Experience - Today we delivered our 1st ever sheepdog experience where our clients met the sheep and learnt firsthand how to handle a sheepdog in a live situation on the farm in a quiet corner of rural Norfolk.

Our first born lambs are getting a little independent and starting to show their characters. All a little cheeky and doing their best to do anything other than what mum wants!

Today saw the arrival of another beautiful Cheviot cross lamb and what an absolute brut of a thing he is!

After keeping an eye on the ewe for a little, we decided that help was required to see this lamb into the world.

As we have said before we try to leave our sheep to lamb on their own unless we really need to step in and today was one of those times where intervention was certainly needed.

After giving mum a hand and making sure her lamb was ok, we left her alone to bond and both are doing fantastic!

We rarely handle our lambs and always try to avoid stepping in with deliveries unless something serious is happening.

However we do have to check all is well when the time is right!

We spray their umbilical cord with a fast drying antiseptic spay which helps prevent potential infection or disease in these tiny creatures.

Which makes for a good opportunity to have a quick cuddle before returning to mum.

Checks also include determining the s*x of the lamb and the need to apply ear tags or such like.

For the Herdwicks their tails stay long and these boys (or tups) will remain entire.
