One of our Stranraer RNLI crew members, Iain Munro, is preparing to take on an incredible endurance challenge in aid of the RNLI.
Starting at 1200 on Friday 21st of August, Iain will attempt to walk the entire 82 mile Rhins of Galloway Coastal Path non-stop, tackling more than 1,310 metres of ascent along the way.
Iain will set off from the official start of the Rhins Coastal Path on the shore of Loch Ryan, beside the Old Harbour Masterโs Office in Stranraer.
From there, heโll head north to the most northerly point of his challenge at Corsewall Lighthouse, before turning south and making his way past Killantringan Lighthouse to Portpatrick.
๐ Through the night, heโll continue from Portpatrick towards Port Logan, before pushing on to the Mull of Galloway Lighthouse.
From the Mull, the homeward journey begins, through Ardwell and into the final 12 miles back to where it all started in Stranraer ๐

Iain is aiming to complete the challenge in around 42 hours. While many people have enjoyed walking the Rhins Coastal Path in sections since its completion, Iain is hoping to become the first person to complete the entire route in one continuous effort.
Most importantly, heโs doing it to raise vital funds for the RNLI, helping our volunteer crews continue saving lives at sea.
From everyone at Stranraer RNLI Lifeboat Station:
Good luck, Iain! We will all be behind you and will be with you every step of the way. ๐งก๐
And whatever state those legs are in when you finishโฆ
donโt forget youโve got training on Monday night! ๐๐
