Introducing our worst kept secret! Everyone say hello to Nancy 🥰

As you all know, we lost our beloved Dionne last year (on the same day as Nancy’s Birthday 🥺). She changed our lives and we got immense joy from changing hers. In February, we decided it was time to start a new chapter and give another greyhound a loving home.

We were so thankful to for bringing Dionne into our lives that we fully trusted them to match us with another best friend. As soon as we got a message about ‘Sophie’ we hopped in the car to Hersham, nervous and excited to embark on this journey again, just as we did 7 years ago.

We were greeted by a little brindle girl, 5 years old, a bit shy but happily trotted off with us for a trip out. It turns out that Nancy is quite wary of people she doesn’t know, so we are flattered that she seemed to trust us so quickly, almost like it was meant to be. She slept in the car the whole way to Devon for a home trial and never left!

Name partly inspired by the fictional amateur sleuth Nancy Drew, our Nancy is very curious and very willing to take our slippers or shoes for further investigation to eliminate any potential threats 😂 She makes us laugh everyday and has such a heart of gold. When we said to Carol at WGW we wanted a cheeky personality, oh boy did she deliver 😂

Nancy is still settling in to her new life but she shines more and more each day 😊 We are so proud of her progress and look forward to all the fun times we are going to have together 🐾

We are BIG on filter coffee. Whether we are behind the bar at our shop or testing batches at the roastery, a filter coffee is our go-to 💧

We often get asked how to do this at home, so our fab videographer Jonny from came over, and captured the process.

For this recipe, we used:

15g of medium/coarse coffee - this one, our Strawberry Roan from China 🇨🇳

250g of filtered water at 90c using our kettle ⚡️

Our brewer of choice for the last few years has been the outstanding .jp 🇯🇵

We poured 3x individual and equal pours of 60g with a final pour of 70g ⚖️

The final brew time was just over 3:30 and the final cup was bright, sweet with notes reminiscent of strawberry jam and honey 🍓🍯🌼

Make do and mend 🛠️

As coffee roasters, we often find ourselves belonging to a unique cohort of people with set expectations.

Visitors might expect the newest flashiest gear, a stunning and state-of-the-art lab, and an office brimming with people equipped with decades of coffee and business know-how.

Meet our roastery QC space. I’ve no doubt that it will, in time, be afforded new luxuries like bespoke cabinetry, world-class machinery and maybe even custom artwork to help educate and inspire visitors trying coffee.

For now though, before our coffee lands at our shop (which has been afforded all of the above) or with any of our customers, I test every roast on a second-hand and slightly wonky moccamaster I picked up for our cart in Marylebone back in January 2024, and a 1971 La Pavoni Europiccola.

Why? Because if good coffee tastes this great using the bare essentials, the scope for achieving exceptional flavour at our shop is bonkers.

Oh, and it’s sat atop repurposed pallets from our coffee deliveries 🚚

As for the people here, you’ll find only Marcus 👋

Roasting, packing, labelling, boxing, singing along with the likes of George Michael and Scissor Sisters, then cleaning up ready to do it all again.

Whilst, like many specialty roasters, we have the dreams, belief, quality and potential to reach the heights of many other coffee businesses we’re proud to call competitors, we’ve learnt there’s a fast way or a hard-working way to get to where you want to be.

It might take us a little longer than others to achieve the look, but we’ve scaled our little business from a living room table to a 1000sqf roastery and our own shop in just 4 years, donating £15,000+ to charities along the way - and we’re damn proud of it ❤️

Strawberry Roan, China 🇨🇳

Our last weekend with this wonderful coffee before we add a bag into a deep freeze until December for our 2026 round up.

Strawberry Roan has been our first venture into China for coffee and has sparked the comment “I didn’t know China grew coffee” more than we thought it would!

This is something we absolutely love about the coffee world: sharing gems that are out there from places you might not expect, and delivering tasty cups that’ll add a smile to anyone’s face ❤️

We’re almost done with our midwinter reno 👨‍🎨

We’ve been absolutely bloody beasted by rain lately so Rhian’s been on window sealant duties and agonising over painting the straightest line on the wonkiest wall - meanwhile Marcus has been beavering away at the roastery day and night keeping our online and wholesale orders flying out the door ✌️

More on the roastery soon - we haven’t really spoken much about this yet, but then again, we’ve been working 7-days a week since October, so we haven’t really spoken about anything 😂

We’re pretty excited for the year ahead! We’ve been absolutely treated by our mates over at with some incredible pastries lately and will be picking up a new display fridge so we can stock some wonders from our friends and at 🧀

On the coffee front, we picked up a very nice lot in from China from lately we’ve named Strawberry Roan as a nod to the Lunar New Year being the Year of the Horse and the rather lovely jammy strawberry profile this tasty little number has 🍓

We’ll be hosting our first series of coffee tastings at the shop in Cockington from March onwards so for our South Devon friends, drop us a message or pop in this weekend to chat about what you can expect 👀
