It was a shock to hear about the passing of Obbo Zegeye Asfaw late at midnight on Monday, 11 May 2026.
I met Obbo Zegeye Asfaw in London in 1992. I had ample time to know him and develop a strong relationship, right up to our last meeting in Finfinne (Addis Ababa) in January 2026. Every time I spent with him, whether in London or when he was in Berlin two years ago, I gained invaluable lessons in tolerance, articulation, and communication with people of all ages and backgrounds. I learned so much from him with each encounter. He was a person rich in knowledge who could communicate effectively with everyone. Unfortunately, that learning opportunity has now closed. I can no longer call to say hello or ask, (Akkam, Obbo Zegeye?) I can no longer plan or aspire to meet him again. January 2026 marked the end of my questions to him, and with his passing, that connection is now gone forever.
My heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends. All of us are mourning the loss of an extraordinary individual who left an indelible mark on our lives.
Rest in peace, Obbo Zegeye. You will be deeply missed.

🌍The Birthplace of Coffee

Coffee began in Ethiopia, making it the first and original home of coffee in the world. For centuries, Ethiopian people have grown coffee in a natural and traditional way, preserving its true quality and character. Unlike many other countries where coffee is produced on a large industrial scale, Ethiopia continues to grow coffee in its natural environment. This is one of the main reasons why Ethiopian coffee is known around the world as one of the finest and most authentic.

🌱 The Coffee Plant – Where It All Begins

Coffee comes from a small tree known as the coffee plant. This plant produces green leaves and small red fruits called coffee cherries, and inside each cherry are the beans we use to make coffee. The quality of coffee depends greatly on how well this plant grows. In Ethiopia, coffee plants are often grown under natural forest shade, where they develop slowly and naturally. This slow growth allows the beans to absorb more nutrients from the soil, which results in richer and more complex flavours.

🌄 Why Ethiopian Coffee Is So Special

Ethiopia has the perfect natural conditions for growing coffee, including high altitudes, rich soil, and an ideal climate. These conditions allow the coffee to grow slowly, which is very important for developing high-quality flavour. In addition, Ethiopia has a wide variety of natural coffee types that are not found anywhere else in the world. This makes Ethiopian coffee unique, as it offers a depth of flavour and aroma that cannot easily be copied or reproduced in other countries.

🌸 A Taste Like No Other

Ethiopian coffee is famous for its distinctive and memorable taste. It often has a natural floral aroma, with notes that can remind you of flowers, citrus, or even fruit. The coffee is usually smooth, clean, and well-balanced, making it enjoyable for both new and experienced coffee drinkers. This natural complexity is what sets Ethiopian coffee apart and gives it a special place among coffee lovers worldwide.

☕ From Ethiopia to Your Cup

At Buna Oromia Coffee, we are proud to bring this authentic experience to our customers. We carefully select coffee from regions such as Yirgacheffe, Sidamo, Harrar, and Jimma, each offering its own unique character and flavour. Our coffee is freshly roasted in the UK to preserve its natural taste and ensure the highest quality in every cup.

🔥 The Original and the Best

What makes Ethiopian coffee truly special is not just its taste, but its history, environment, and tradition. It is the original coffee, grown in its natural home, using methods that have been trusted for generations. This combination of origin, care, and quality is what makes Ethiopian coffee stand above the rest. It is not just a drink, but an experience that connects you to the true roots of coffee.

☕ Experience the Difference
