Today in Japan, the sky fills with carp. 🎏
Children’s Day (Kodomo no Hi), celebrated on May 5th, is all about wishing for the health, happiness, and strength of the next generation. Families mark the day by flying koinobori, carp-shaped streamers that ripple in the wind, symbolising resilience and determination.
Inside the home, you’ll often find displays of samurai armour and helmets, representing courage and protection. And of course, there’s food, kashiwa mochi and chimaki, traditional sweets that carry meanings of prosperity and wellbeing.
It’s a celebration that feels both joyful and deeply rooted in tradition, honouring children, while reflecting on growth, care, and family.
A small moment of Japan we love sharing.
