🌿 Why We Created The Natural Balance Kitchen Experience 🌿

If I’m honest, this retreat was never really about creating a retreat.

It was about responding.

Over the last few years, Paula and I have had countless conversations with people who want to understand food differently.

People who are tired of conflicting advice.

People who know they want to look after themselves better but don’t know where to start.

People who have lost confidence in the kitchen.

People who want to understand how to nourish themselves and the people they love.

People who know there must be more to health than simply taking another supplement, buying another powder or chasing another quick fix.

And perhaps most importantly, people who have forgotten how to slow down long enough to listen to what their body is actually asking for.

This retreat is our response to all of those conversations.

The Natural Balance Kitchen Experience is the first in a series of immersive experiences we will be creating over the coming months and years.

Experiences designed to bring people back into relationship with food.

Back into relationship with their body.

Back into relationship with themselves.

Over three days we will explore what nourishment really means.

Not through rules.

Not through restriction.

Not through fear.

But through curiosity, creativity and experience.

We’ll be making fresh cold pressed juices and exploring how plants can support the body through food rather than relying solely on shop bought vitamins and supplements.

We’ll be learning how to create beautiful plant based meals from simple ingredients.

We’ll be diving into fermentation and gut health.

We’ll be creating nourishing raw desserts and treats.

We’ll be making staples that many people assume are complicated, from plant milks to sauces and everyday kitchen essentials.

We’ll explore how to create more nourishment while producing less waste.

We’ll talk about food, energy, digestion, nervous system support and everyday wellbeing.

And most importantly, we’ll create space to slow down.

Because sometimes the most healing thing we can do is stop rushing.

This experience is also perfect for those already working within the wellbeing industry.

If you’re a yoga teacher, Pilates instructor, breathwork practitioner, sound healer, retreat facilitator or wellness professional, this retreat will give you practical experience of how food can become part of the experience you create for others.

One of the things Paula and I have become known for is creating menus that align with the intention of an event.

We don’t simply ask what people want to eat.

We ask:

What is the experience trying to create?

How do we want people to feel?

What support does the body need throughout that journey?

Because food has energy.

Food creates atmosphere.

Food can completely transform the experience people have at a retreat.

Throughout the three days we’ll share everything we’ve embodied through Natural Balance Kitchen, Pressed & Blessed, Living by Design and the Natural Balance Collective.

Not as experts standing at the front of a room.

But as two people who have spent years experimenting, learning, healing, cooking, facilitating and sharing what we’ve discovered along the way.

There will be workshops.

Conversations.

One to one opportunities.

Moments of learning.

Moments of rest.

Moments of connection.

And plenty of opportunities to simply enjoy being around like minded people.

This is not about becoming perfect.

It’s about becoming more connected.

To your food.

To your body.

To your intuition.

And to the simple act of nourishing yourself well.

If that speaks to you, we’d love to welcome you into the kitchen with us 🌿

Looking back through these dishes, I realise they tell a story.

Not just of food, but of hundreds of conversations around retreat tables, of people discovering that healthy eating doesn’t have to mean restriction, and of the joy that comes when we start to see food as something that truly nourishes us.

For over 30 years, food has been at the centre of my life. What began as a love of cooking has evolved into a passion for helping people reconnect with simple ingredients and create meals that support their health without sacrificing flavour.

This September, we will be opening the doors to the Natural Balance Kitchen Retreat.

A weekend where we’ll slow down, cook together, share meals around the table, talk about nutrition, seasonal eating, plant-based cooking, juicing, fermentation and all the little things we have learned along the way.

No chef experience needed.

Just a curiosity about food and a desire to learn how to create colourful, nourishing meals that you can easily recreate at home.

If you’ve ever sat at one of our retreat tables and wondered how the dishes are created, or if you’d simply like to spend some time immersed in good food, good company and a beautiful setting, this retreat has been created for you.

Myself and Nadia would love for you to join us.

For seven years, Paula and I have been feeding other people’s retreats.

We’ve stood in retreat kitchens before sunrise.

We’ve watched people arrive exhausted.

We’ve watched them leave lighter.

Not because of anything magical.

Because they finally slowed down.

Because they were given permission to breathe.

Because they sat around tables with people who understood.

Because they were nourished.

Over the years we’ve lost count of how many times people have said:

“You should run your own retreat.”

Truthfully, we never felt ready.

We were busy building.

Learning.

Experimenting.

Creating.

Supporting other facilitators.

But eventually the messages became impossible to ignore.

So we listened.

And this September, we’re opening the doors to the very first Natural Balance Kitchen Experience.

Three days of plant-based cooking.

Juicing.

Gut health.

Fermentation.

Raw desserts.

Gluten-free baking.

Morning yoga.

Relaxation.

Conversations.

Beautiful food.

Beautiful people.

And the opportunity to step away from the noise for a few days and reconnect with yourself.

No pressure.

No perfection.

No food rules.

Just nourishment.

The kind that feeds more than your stomach.

If you’ve ever messaged us asking when we’d create our own retreat…

This is it 🌿

And we’d love to welcome you into the kitchen.

If I had to write a list about what I love most about my job… the people would always sit right at the top of it. ✨

Without the people, there would be no tables to fill, no stories shared over food, no reason to create dishes designed to nourish body and soul.

As a 4/6 Generator in Human Design with the Right Angle Incarnation Cross of Service, community and connection are woven deeply into who I am. In simple terms, my purpose is to create positive change, encourage growth and bring people together… and honestly, being able to do that through food feels like such a privilege.

I truly believe healthy eating does not need to feel restrictive or complicated. Sometimes all it takes is serving up beautiful food with intention, a little education woven into conversation, and creating a space where people feel held, inspired and cared for.

Last week I had the joy of nourishing a gorgeous group of musicians, songwriters and creatives on retreat and it filled my Generator soul in all the right ways. They arrived for the music, the creativity and the connection… but I think they left with a little extra nourishment too. 🌿

And if you know me, you’ll know music has always had a huge piece of my heart. So being surrounded by talented humans creating, sharing energy and pouring emotion into song whilst I poured love into the food… it felt like a beautiful energetic exchange that more than filled my cup.

These moments remind me why I do what I do. 🤍

The Natural Balance Kitchen has always been about using plants as medicine… and that doesn’t always mean food on a plate. 🌿

For quite a few years now I’ve been quietly crafting plant medicine tinctures alongside my retreat work. Most have found their way into the hands of friends and family, gifted with intention, while others have been created for clients needing deeper support on their healing journey.

One thing I get asked about time and time again is parasite cleansing.

So over the past months I’ve been blending, testing, refining and listening… because if I release something into the world it has to feel aligned, effective and created with care. And finally I have landed on a formula that I am genuinely happy to share.

Today a fresh batch went into the apothecary corner of my kitchen and in 4 weeks it will be ready to release alongside our full parasite cleanse protocol. 🌱

This protocol will live inside the Healing Collective within The Natural Balance Collective membership space, alongside our ever-growing educational spaces covering:
✨ Heavy metal detox support
✨ Living with fibromyalgia
✨ Heart health
✨ Gut healing
✨ Natural wellness education
…and so much more.

Members also gain access to our Connect Hive… an ecosystem of health, wealth and wellbeing where learning, healing and connection all meet.

Parasites are often the hidden guests nobody talks about… yet they can play a role in everything from digestive issues and bloating to inflammation, fatigue and skin flare ups.

Sometimes getting to the root of our symptoms means being willing to look a little deeper.

Stop guessing.
Stop masking symptoms.
Start asking what your body is trying to tell you. 🌿

Comment “PARASITES” below to be the first to get access to the cleanse protocol and tincture release.

There’s something really special about watching somebody step into the kitchen not just as a chef… but as somebody who truly understands the power of nourishment through lived experience. 🌿

Three years ago, first stepped into one of my retreat kitchens during her own healing journey after years of navigating chronic illness and learning how to reconnect with her body through plant-based nourishment, juicing, herbals, and intentional living. What started as a personal journey soon became a passion for supporting others through food too.

From assisting me on retreats to training through The Natural Balance Kitchen, Nadia has spent the last few years immersed in retreat life, learning the flow, energy, and magic that happens when food becomes part of somebody’s healing, rest, creativity, or transformation journey.

Alongside her retreat chef training, Nadia also founded Pressed & Blessed, bringing therapeutic juicing and functional nourishment into her work, whilst continuing to deepen her studies in nutrition, herbalism, natural healing, and wellbeing.

And now… she is officially stepping into her next chapter as part of the NBK retreat chef team. ✨

Based near Cambridge, Nadia is now available for retreat catering bookings across the South, bringing beautiful plant-based nourishment, calming kitchen energy, vibrant juices, wholesome sweet treats, and deeply intentional food to retreats, workshops, wellbeing spaces, and creative gatherings.

Honestly, watching this journey unfold from healing… to helping nourish others… has been a full circle moment. One retreat kitchen at a time. 🌿

If you are a retreat host based in the Cambridgeshire area looking for a retreat chef aligned with wellbeing, nourishment, and heartfelt food, feel free to drop us a message.

May has unfolded like a pressed flower journal left open in the sunshine 🌿

This past week alone I’ve flowed between three beautiful events, nourishing incredible humans, sharing food, stories, laughter and moments that linger long after the plates are cleared. I’ve been gifted flowers, plants and such heartfelt kindness along the way… tiny offerings that somehow say so much.

Sometimes I pause and realise this life I’ve built doesn’t feel like “work” in the traditional sense. It feels like service. Like following the breadcrumbs of what lights me up and allowing it to lead me to the most magical corners and people.

Tomorrow I head back to the place that quietly stole a piece of my heart… the Lakes 🤍

First stop, Coniston, where I’ll be nourishing a group of songwriters before carving out a little pocket of rest and reset around Buttermere way.

Good food. Beautiful souls. Wild landscapes. Slow mornings.
Honestly… this chapter feels very special.

I have been having such a happy month and my apron has been hung up until the 5th May when the retreat station leaves the station again and I head back to The Tree in Yorkshire for a sold out day retreat.

I have had a few cancellations for this year already due to facilitators not being able to fill their retreats and my advice would be to enter the world of day retreats first and build up your retreat client pool, give your potential weekend retreat clients a day experience that leaves them wanting more.

Behind the facilitators losses stand a lot of losses for the venues as it is not easy to fill a space that quickly and as a caterer we also loose too so we also have a vested interest in you filling your retreat so don’t be shy on asking us to share your event too on our social media. We are all in This together.

Tempeh: The Original Plant Protein

Before tofu… there was tempeh.

Originating in Indonesia centuries ago, tempeh was created as a way to preserve soybeans and make them easier to digest. Through fermentation, whole beans are transformed into something far more powerful—binding together into a firm, nutty, protein-rich staple.

But here’s where it gets interesting…

Unlike tofu, tempeh uses the whole soybean. Nothing stripped away. Nothing refined. Just fermented.
Which means:
✨ more fibre
✨ more nutrients
✨ and natural support for your gut health

It’s one of those ingredients that doesn’t just fill you up… it actually supports you.

🍽️ How It Shows Up in the Kitchen

Tempeh is a quiet chameleon.

It soaks up flavour, crisps beautifully, and can:
→ replace bacon in a TLT
→ bulk out a stew or cassoulet
→ be tossed into stir fries
→ or take centre stage as a marinated main

Once you start using it, it tends to stay.

✨ Inside The Natural Balance Kitchen Collective
I share:
→ how to cook with tempeh
→ fermentation methods (yes, you can make your own)
→ recipes like my TLT (our take on the BLT)
