So today Drove Farm Vets came out to fertility test our 9 stock bulls. It is an annual veterinary check-up that enables us to evaluate a bull's ability to impregnate cows. The process includes a physical exam which would include mobility and body condition scoring, scrotal circumference and a semen analysis for motility and morphology.
It was a good result all round today!

Winter might be cold, but there’s no slowing down here on the farm! ❄️

The team are hard at work each day cleaning out yards, feeding the cattle and bedding up pens to keep them warm and comfortable. Every group is fed a carefully balanced diet designed to support their specific needs and production goals.

A busy few days on the farm cleaning out the cattle buildings. This important operation is done every 6 weeks to improve animal performance and welfare by enhancing cow comfort. It improves animal health by preventing disease and respiratory infections and also ensures a level of food safety by meeting high standards for meat production, therefore building consumer confidence. Happy cows! 🐮

Great day sharing our organic journey with other like minded farmers! Excellent turnout as always.

Yesterday we cut our maize which will be clamped and stored as silage for the cattle. This marks quite a milestone for us, as it will be the last time we grow maize, as we begin our conversion to organic farming.

It’s the end of one chapter and the start of another, and we’re looking forward to the changes and challenges ahead as we work towards a more sustainable way of farming.

We’re giving our permanent pasture leys a boost by planting a mix of perennial ryegrass and white clover. This combination helps fix nitrogen naturally, improves soil health, and enhances the overall quality of our pasture. Healthier grass means happier, better-fed livestock – all part of our commitment to sustainable, productive farming

Planting winter cover last week into some very dry conditions. This winter cover crop contains Fodder Radish, Yellow Mustard and Phacelia. This mix is a fantastic w**d suppressant due to its quick growth. It holds nitrogen and helps condition the soil. Improving our soils is a huge priority as we begin our organic conversion.

This diverse grass ley consists of legumes and herbs, this creates a multi-functional sward that is deeper rooted and capable of scavenging for micro-nutrients.
The high legume content will help to maximise nitrogen production for consistent grass growth.
