A wet Saturday night and a visit to Versova Indian restaurant in Horsell . Never been before mostly good comments so looking forward to eating and reviewing , a very warm welcome and I immediately noticed this was no ordinary Indian , very smart decor and at 7.00 pm absolutely packed ,poppadoms to nibble these were crisp squares very thin with a tomato chutney , yoghurt and mango chutney I chose Ad-raki lamb chops £22 crispy onion bhajis , pilau rice and a new dish to me Cauliflower Manchurian a spicy deep fried cauli with a sweet and sour sauce , a good portion of everything .All very good if not more expensive and a step away from a traditional Indian restaurant in conclusion I would return but having been used to all the usual Indian dishes that I’ve been eating for years which I probably prefer it will be some time . Food 8 service 8 vibe 8 .

For me the best breakfast in Guildford , lorenzos stoke road quality ingredients and great coffeee and service in a lovely courtyard setting £13.

Brunch at Pinnock’s ripley always busy with locals , cyclists and walkers , lovely old building , great choice of coffee all with a strength to suit you . I had an egg mayo bacon and tomato ( it said vine tomatoes on the menu I think they all grow on a vine )focaccia it came with crisps , coleslaw and a small salad £9.50 all good and fresh , no room for a great selection of home made pastries and cakes . Food 8 service 8 vibe 8.

A visit before a show at g live to the Golden Mandarin Guildford . There’s been a Chinese restaurant here for as long as I can remember the current owner Janet has been here over 20 years , a very warm welcome and a selection of dishes chosen crispy chilli beef , beef with peppers and black bean sauce , special fried rice and a chicken chow mein . The food arrived quickly and freshly cooked delicious and a good portion , we left quickly as they were filling up with customers .food 8 service 8 vibe 8 .

Went to the local Chinese restaurant last night ,I did ask if they had any specials ,they gave me to much foo young.

Monday lunch at the gosling Woking , haven’t been here since the days of the bleak house so a big refit with very smart decor , nice welcome and a look at the menus . There is a set menu £30 for 3 courses or a la Carte , we chose the set menu and to start I had bresaola with rocket and Parmesan it was delicious a corn fed chicken breast with mash and sprouting broccoli for main again very good . To finish I had Montgomery cheese and crackers ( to be honest it could have been any cheddar ).Monday lunchtime so fairly quiet but will return , in conclusion fine dining and service . Food 9 service 8 vibe 7

Weekday lunch at the Brittania in Guildford a glorious day to sit by the river , nice pint of whitstable bitter as we looked at the menu , we shared some very good nachos with all the acutriments (great word ) and I chose a lamb burger for a main course . It was ok didn’t really taste of lamb nothing special (£17.50), a cold bottle of sauvignon rose tasted better than the burger , so nice to sit outside pity the food didn’t match the nice day . Food 6 service 6 vibe 8

A visit to Ihlara in Woking before a show at the ambassadors theater , warm welcome to this Turkish restaurant loved the complimentary dips and bread while we chose our food , I went for the lamb ribs a huge portion meaty charred to perfection chips and a salad with a delicious dressing . A glass of house red to accompany all very good , we were a bit rushed to get to the show but will return for a more leisurely meal .food 8 service 8 vibe 6( it was early so quiet )

Lunch at Olivios in Guildford , tried the set menu good value at £20 for 2 courses , been here a few times always good in a lovely quirky building . Chose a seafood croquette to start good portion but where it was so thick quite cool in the middle and for main a chicken escalope with salad great chicken but a bit boring salad no dressing a glass of Soave to accompany ,all ok good value nothing special . Food 7 service 7 vibe 7 .

Friday evening out to the inn at west end the last time we came here the premises were independent it is now Baron inns . We were shown to a table in the bar rather than the restaurant so very crowded and noisy . Nice pint of tongham tea and chose courgette fritters to start and a medium portion of ribs for main salmon for my wife both good if not spectacular ( I miss Bluebeckers for ribs ), no puds or wine the bill was £90 for 2, my thoughts after the meal was ok a bit underwhelmed. Food 7 service 7 vibe 7
