🥃 WH**KY WEDNESDAY… BLIND EDITION 👀

Another reveal from September’s blind tasting - and this one was certainly hard to miss once the bottle came out!

Meet Loch Dhu 10 Year Old – The Black Wh**ky, a 40% Speyside single malt produced at Mannochmore Distillery. Famous for its almost jet-black appearance, it’s become something of a cult collector’s bottle - and a wh**ky that seriously divides opinion!

Of course, our members had no idea what they were drinking at the time… 🫣

👃 On the nose: Rich espresso and treacle toffee, with roasted nuts and a touch of sweetness.

🥃 The taste: Dark and intense — bitter coffee, burnt toast, roasted nuts and plenty of charred character.

🔥 The finish: Dry and punchy, with heavily charred oak and those dark roasted flavours lingering.

Definitely not your everyday dram, and exactly the sort of bottle that makes a blind tasting interesting! 😂

Love it or hate it… this one certainly gave everyone something to talk about. 🥃

🥃 WHAT A NIGHT! 🎭✨

After yesterday’s post, it’s safe to say the Worcestershire Ambassadors ‘A Night on Broadway’ Charity Ball certainly lived up to expectations!

It was brilliant to see so many familiar faces from Wh**ky Mixer out in force, coming together to support such a fantastic local cause - and, judging by the photos, having a pretty good time while doing it! 🥂😂

A huge shoutout again to Edward Dalley from the Financial Advice Centre, and to Neil Sysum, James Howard and Liz Duggan from Sysum Howard Duggan, who were amongst the sponsors helping make such an incredible evening possible. 👏

And of course, a massive thank you to all of our Wh**ky Mixer members who attended. Nights like this really show what our network is all about - supporting one another, supporting our local community and building genuine friendships beyond our monthly meetings. 🧡

Plenty of business connections, plenty of laughs, a few sore heads this morning we’d imagine… and most importantly, all in support of a brilliant cause!

Well done to everyone involved in putting on another fantastic evening. 🥃👏

🥃 TONIGHT’S THE NIGHT! 🎭✨

Tonight we’re swapping the Wh**ky Mixer table for something a little more glamorous as many of our members head to the Worcestershire Ambassadors ‘A Night on Broadway’ Annual Charity Ball!

A huge shoutout to **kyMixer member Edward Dalley from the Financial Advice Centre, and to our very own Chairman Neil Sysum, and member James Howard as well as Liz Duggan from Sysum Howard Duggan, who between then are the headline sponsors. 👏

It’s brilliant to see so many people from within the Wh**ky Mixer community getting behind such an incredible local event - whether that’s through sponsorship, support or simply being there tonight.

The Worcestershire Ambassadors do fantastic work raising money for charities and good causes across our county, and tonight is all about bringing the local business community together while giving something back.

And if tonight is anything like last year… we already know it’s going to be a good one! 🥂🕺

🥃 WH**KY WEDNESDAY… BLIND EDITION 👀

Another reveal from September’s blind tasting, and this time we had Loch Lomond The Open Special Edition - Rioja Finish hiding in the decanter.

Created for the 151st Open at Royal Liverpool, this single malt was matured in American oak before being finished in Rioja red-wine casks - bringing plenty of fruit and richness into the glass.

👃 On the nose: Floral and fruity, with rose, peach and pear.

🥃 The taste: Red berries and orchard fruits, with raspberry, peach, creamy vanilla and rich dark chocolate.

🔥 The finish: Medium in length, with the fruit lingering before a gentle touch of smoke comes through.

Of course, none of our Wh**ky Mixer members knew any of that when they were tasting it! 😂 No bottle, no label and no clues - just what was in the glass.

Another one that certainly got people talking around the table! 🥃

🥃 MEET THE TEAM | MATTHEW JACKSON 🥃

Next up in our Meet the Team series is Matthew Jackson of Jackson Family Funeral Directors - one of the original minds behind Wh**ky Mixer!

Back in 2024, Matt and Neil had an idea: bring local business owners together, pour a few drams and make networking a little less… well, networky! 😂

Fast forward to today and Matt is one of our Founder Fourteen, part of the leadership team and our nominated Wh**ky Sommelier. 🥃

He's the man helping guide us through the whiskies, sharing a little knowledge along the way and encouraging everyone to give something new a try - even those who insist they don't like wh**ky!

What started as a conversation has grown into a room full of genuine connections, business opportunities and plenty of laughter.

Co-founder, Wh**ky Sommelier and one of the reasons we're all raising a glass together today.

🥃 WH**KY WEDNESDAY… BLIND EDITION 👀

September’s Wh**ky Mixer came with a twist — no labels, no bottles, no preconceptions. Just the wh**ky in the glass!

Hidden inside one of our decanters was Bell’s Blended Scotch Wh**ky… but did anyone recognise it? 👀

👃 On the nose: Soft malt and gentle sweetness, with hints of fruit, honey and a little spice.

🥃 The taste: Smooth and easy-drinking, with sweet cereal, caramel, dried fruit and warming spice coming through.

🔥 The finish: Medium and warming, with lingering malt, gentle spice and a touch of sweetness.

Taking away the label certainly got everyone talking - and there were some very confident guesses along the way! 😂🥃

Safe to say, our first blind tasting went down a storm.

🥃 MEET THE TEAM | PHILIP ASHWELL 🥃

Next up in our Meet the Team series is another of our Founder Fourteen - Philip Ashwell of AshwellCare.

Unlike some lifelong wh**ky lovers, Phil’s appreciation for a good dram came a little later. It was a trip to Scotland that sparked the interest… and what started as curiosity soon turned into a rather impressive collection! 🥃

So who better to take on the role of Cellar Master at Wh**ky Mixer?

As part of our leadership team, Phil helps bring together two things Wh**ky Mixer was built around: exceptional wh**ky and great conversation. Because while the wh**ky might get people around the table, it’s the relationships and connections made over a glass that really matter.

One of the original Founder Fourteen and now guardian of the good stuff… 🥃🔐
