Changing water is not a substitute for good management.

If you keep overfeeding, overcrowding the pond, and ignoring waste, changing water repeatedly will not solve the real problem.

Find the cause, not just the symptom.

If you want to formulate your own local catfish feed, you can use this simple 100kg formulation.

For 100kg of feed, you’ll need:

Soybean meal — 35kg
Fish meal — 20kg
Maize — 25kg
Wheat bran — 10kg
Blood meal — 5kg
Bone meal — 2kg
Vegetable oil — 1kg
Vitamin/mineral premix — 1kg
Salt — 0.5kg
DCP — 0.5kg

Total = 100kg

Simply get the ingredients, measure them correctly, and take the materials to a feed mill close to you to be properly ground, mixed, pelleted and dried.

But remember, feed formulation is not just about mixing ingredients. The protein, energy, amino acids, minerals and ingredient quality must be properly balanced according to the size and growth stage of your fish.

If properly formulated, making your own feed can be a way to take better control of your feeding costs.
