It is always going to be the same old story, "We have invested hugely into the agric sector to produce more food and create jobs".
Government interventions in the agricultural sector is a time boom discouraging foreign aids from supporting the Ghanaian youth in the sector.
Most of the government budget for the sector goes into the payment of the board members of the various sections within including Ghana Cocoa Board instead of construction of agric roads, good seedlings, fertilizers, farming education and training and others.
Engaging in farming as a youth demand a huge financial muscles and commitment to succeed. Little do people know how much goes into acquiring a land, weeding, clearing and preparing the land, seedlings, planting of seedlings. And the cost of fertilizer, weedicide, and farming tools and equipment.
There is agricultural directory in every district, municipal and metro in Ghana representing the Ministry of Food and Agriculture . The agric departments are to work hand in hand with the individual farmers and people intend to go into farming through policies drawn by their ministry. But party politics and appointments have make difficult for most of the directors to work efficiently. They prefer engaging the party faithfuls than the mass with the willing to invest into farming and the other agricultural sectors.
It is time for government to enroll community and state farming projects across the country to produce food for the food bank project. And directly employ the youth and produce healthy food for all.
If FOOD is life then its production should a need.
We are farmers - we make it happen.
