π The Truth About the New Sachet Water Prices in Tamale π§
Hello, Tamale! At Mist Drop Water Ltd, weβve heard the whispers, the confusion, and the misinformation going around regarding the new price of sachet water. We believe you deserve the unfiltered truth.
To keep our community healthy and hydrated, we are separating the FACTS from the RUMOURS. Here is exactly what is happening according to the National Association of Sachet and Packaged Water Producers (NASPAWAP).
π THE FACTS: What are the new prices?
Effective Monday, April 6, 2026, the new recommended pricing for a bag of 30 sachets (500ml) is:
Ex-Factory Price: GHΒ’8 (Price directly from our factory).
Ex-Truck Price: GHΒ’10 (Price from delivery trucks and tricycles to retailers).
Maximum Retail Price: GHΒ’15 (The most you should pay at a shop).
π§ THE "WHY": Separating Reality from Mischief
β RUMOUR: "This is just politics or local greed."
β
FACT: This increase is driven by global supply chain disruptions. There is a severe global shortage of polymers; the essential raw material used to make the plastic sachets. This shortage has caused production costs to skyrocket for all manufacturers.
β RUMOUR: "But didn't the PURC just reduce water tariffs?"
β
FACT: You are right! The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) did announce a 3.06% cut in piped water tariffs for the second quarter starting April 1, 2026. HOWEVER, not all sachet water manufacturers use piped water. Serious sachet water producers like Mist Drop Water Ltd use very expensive machines to treat and purify water from underground sources. Also, while the water from the tap got slightly cheaper, the plastic packaging materials (polymers) have seen a "sharp escalation" in price due to the ongoing conflict in Iran. We cannot package the water without the plastic!
β RUMOUR: "Producers are making too much profit."
β
FACT: NASPAWAP states that these adjustments are "unavoidable" to sustain the industry. Without this review, many producers would be forced to shut down, leading to water shortages in Tamale and the entire country at large.
