🐣 Before You Start Poultry Farming, Read This First

One of the biggest mistakes beginners make is rushing to buy chicks without proper preparation. That is the fastest way to lose money in poultry farming.

Before you bring in your first birds, make sure you have these 5 things in place:
1️⃣ Clear Purpose
Are you going into layers (eggs) or broilers (meat)?
Each requires different management and planning.
2️⃣ Proper Housing
Your poultry house must be ready BEFORE the birds arrive.
Good ventilation, enough space, and protection from predators are key.
3️⃣ Reliable Feed Source
Feed accounts for about 70% of your cost.
Make sure you have a consistent and trusted supplier.
4️⃣ Water & Hygiene Plan
Clean water is life for poultry. Dirty water can destroy your entire farm.
5️⃣ Market Plan
Don’t wait till your birds are ready before looking for buyers.
Know who will buy from you in advance.
💡 Many people fail not because poultry is bad—but because they start unprepared.
Start small. Learn fast. Grow wisely.
👉 What is stopping you from starting poultry farming?

🐣 Before You Start Poultry Farming, Do This First

Many people rush into poultry and lose money.
Avoid that mistake 👇

-Decide your focus (Layers or Broilers)
-Start small (50–200 birds)
-Secure a reliable feed source
-Prepare proper housing BEFORE birds arrive
-Plan your market (who will buy?)
-Success in poultry farming starts BEFORE you buy your first chick.

Think. Plan. Execute.

🐔 Why Poultry Farming is One of the Smartest Businesses Today

Many people enter poultry farming thinking it is a quick way to make money. The truth is—poultry farming is not a “get rich quick” business. It is a well-managed agribusiness that rewards those who understand it.

Here’s why poultry farming is powerful:

✅ Fast turnover (broilers can be ready in 6–8 weeks)
✅ High demand for eggs and chicken meat every day
✅ You can start small and grow gradually
✅ It provides regular cash flow, especially with layers

However, here’s what most people don’t tell you:

⚠️ Without proper knowledge, poultry can drain your money faster than it brings profit.
⚠️ Poor management leads to high mortality, feed waste, and low returns.

Successful poultry farmers don’t just rear birds—they manage:
📊 Feed efficiency
📊 Bird health
📊 Market timing

If you treat poultry like a business, it will pay you like a business.

👉 Are you already into poultry farming or planning to start? Let’s talk in the comments.

🇬🇭🐔 A Defining Moment for B&D farms & Our Poultry Farmers!

Today, B&D proudly handed over birds to Hon. John Dumelo, together with the Bono East Regional Minister and the Techiman North DCE, for onward distribution to beneficiaries under the government initiative.

This is not just a presentation of birds — it is a symbol of opportunity, empowerment, and economic transformation for our local farmers.

Through this intervention, livelihoods are being strengthened, food security is being enhanced, and the poultry value chain in Bono East is gaining new momentum.

At B-Debrah, we remain committed to supporting government’s vision for sustainable agribusiness growth.

With the right partnerships and continuous support, we can scale this impact and position Bono East as a leading hub for poultry production in Ghana.
We are ready to do more. 🤝🔥

History is about to be made at B&D Farms. 🇬🇭🐥

Preparations are fully underway to receive the Hon. Minister and his team for the official commencement of the Nkokonketenkete distribution to beneficiaries.

What you see here is not just chairs under trees — it is a bold step toward food security, youth employment, and import substitution in Ghana’s poultry sector.

At B&D Farms, we are ready.
Ready to scale.
Ready to support government’s agenda.
Ready to create sustainable livelihoods for our people.

We respectfully call on the Presidency, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), and all relevant Ministries and Agencies to deepen collaboration with us
— through structured contracts, timely logistics, technical backing, and financial support
— to ensure this flagship initiative achieves its full national impact.

With the right support, B&D Farms can become a strategic hub for poultry multiplication, training, and rural enterprise development.
The vision is clear.

The commitment is firm. The impact will be measurable.
Let’s build Ghana’s poultry industry together. 🇬🇭

🇬🇭 NKOKONKETENKETE – WEEK 4: READY TO SCALE 🐔🔥

Week 4 update from B-DEBRAH 2021 FARMS under the Government’s flagship poultry initiative.

The results are promising — strong growth rate, improved feathering, active feeding, and stable mortality. Our team remains committed to strict biosecurity, proper ventilation, and professional flock management.
But beyond production, we see something bigger.

This initiative is not just about raising birds. It is about:
✅ Reducing Ghana’s poultry import dependency
✅ Creating structured rural employment
✅ Strengthening district-level agribusiness ecosystems
✅ Building resilient local food systems

As a committed agribusiness operator and partner in national development, I am ready to:
🔹 Expand production capacity
🔹 Train and mentor emerging poultry farmers
🔹 Collaborate with District Assemblies
🔹 Support youth and women agripreneurs
🔹 Serve as a technical implementation partner

With the right institutional coordination, timely financial structures, and strong public-private collaboration, Ghana can transform its poultry value chain sustainably.

I respectfully invite the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, District Assemblies, development partners, and financial institutions to deepen engagement with serious local producers who are delivering measurable results on the ground.

The capacity exists.
The commitment is proven.
The opportunity is now. 🇬🇭

We were truly honoured to host Bernard Debrah, CEO of B&D FARMS and a proud alumnus of our Ghana Employment Initiative (GEI), at the WEFLI Conference.

Bernard openly shared his entrepreneurial journey in agribusiness; from building his business, navigating real-life challenges, to the lessons that shaped his resilience and growth. His honest insights inspired our beneficiaries to embrace innovation, persistence, and strategic thinking as they build sustainable enterprises of their own.

Moments like this remind us why peer learning and mentorship are powerful tools for empowerment.

We are deeply grateful to Otto per Mille Valdese for their continued support in making initiatives like WEFLI possible and in advancing women’s financial independence through practical learning and collaboration.

Together, we grow. Together, we empower. Otto per Mille Valdese B&D FARMS .

Week 3 Progress Update – Nkokonketenkete Brooding Project 🐔🇬🇭

We are in Week 3 of the Nkokonketenkete Brooding Project, and we are happy to report that the birds are progressing well. Growth is encouraging, brooding conditions are being maintained, and our team remains fully committed to delivering quality outcomes under this important government flagship initiative.

We are grateful for the opportunity to support Ghana’s poultry value chain and youth employment agenda through this intervention. Being part of this programme has reinforced our belief in the impact of well-structured public–private collaboration in agriculture.

As we approach the final week of the brooding phase, we believe that strong coordination and timely communication will further strengthen implementation on the ground. Key areas such as access to adequate medications, formal documentation to guide engagements, regular updates from coordinators, and clarity on post-brooding arrangements are important for smooth operations and effective planning by participating farms.

We share these observations constructively and with deep respect for the institutions leading this programme, confident that addressing them will enhance transparency, accountability, and overall project success.

We remain committed, cooperative, and ready to deliver for the success of the Nkokonketenkete Project and Ghana’s poultry industry 🤝🏾🐓
