Το Metaxa δεν είναι brandy ή cognac, αλλά κάτι μοναδικό στο είδος του. Το Metaxa Private Reserve είναι ένα εντυπωσιακό blend, που παράγεται σε περιορισμένες ποσότητες, σύμφωνα με την αυθεντική συνταγή Metaxa. Δημιουργήθηκε το 1992 από τον 5ο Metaxa Master, Κωνσταντίνο Ράπτη, και παράγεται μόνο μία φορά το χρόνο σε μία και αποκλειστική παρτίδα.
Περιλαμβάνει εκλεκτά αποστάγματα κρασιού, παλαιωμένα έως και για 30 έτη, στα δρύινα οικογενειακά βαρέλια του Σπύρου Μεταξά, σε συνδυασμό με κρασιά ποικιλίας Μοσχάτο από τη Σάμο, ροδοπέταλα και το μυστικό μείγμα μεσογειακών βοτάνων του Metaxa.
Έχει αρώματα αποξηραμένων φρούτων όπως βερίκοκο και δαμάσκηνο, καθώς και μέλι. Η γεύση είναι απαλή και πλούσια, με νότες αποξηραμένων φρούτων, μελιού και φουντουκιών. Η επίγευση είναι μακρά με αποξηραμένα φρούτα και γλυκά μπαχαρικά.
Το αλκοόλ είναι 40%

This unique spirit, Metaxa, is not brandy or cognac, but rather one of its kind. Metaxa Private Reserve is an extraordinary blend, produced in limited quantities, according to the authentic Metaxa recipe. Created in 1992 by the 5th Metaxa Master Konstantinos Raptis and it’s produced only once a year in a single, exclusive batch.
It features aged wine distillates, some up to 30 years old, from Spyros Metaxas’ family casks, combined with Muscat wines from Samos, rose petals, and Metaxa’s trademark secret mix of mediterranean botanicals.
It has aromas of dried fruits such as apricot and plum, and also honey. The taste is mellow, smooth, and rich, with a palate of dried fruits, honey and hazelnuts. Aftertaste is long with dry fruits and sweet spices.
ABV is 40%

Happy New Year with this great Ardbeg Uigeadail.

A NAS whisky, named after its peaty water source, a mysterious loch fed by rainwater. A marriage of bourbon and sherry casks gives aromas of peat, sherry and citrus and a bit of bacon, where the taste is full of peat, oily, vanilla, pepper and dried fruits.

ABV is 54,2% but well-rounded.

Greek Whisky Association meets Lindores Abbey Distillery

Throwback to last year’s presentation of Lindores, Lowlands Single Malt Whisky.

Line up:

• Lindores - The Casks of Lindores II -Limited Edition Bourbon Barrels (49,4%)

The bottles carry a message stating: «By purchasing this bottle you have contributed to the preservation of Lindores Abbey, the spiritual home of scotch whisky, thank you».
This preservation effort is managed by the Lindores Abbey Preservation Society, which is partially funded by a portion of sales and membership fees. The current owners and custodians, the McKenzie Smith family, opened the distillery in 2017 with the explicit goal of restoring and preserving the historic abbey and surrounding grounds, including reinstating the heritage orchards and gardens that were originally planted by the Tironensian monks in the 12th century.

Και ναι, το πρώτο Ελληνικό ουίσκι είναι πλέον γεγονός!

Με χαρά αποδέχτηκα την πρόσκληση των The Whisky Friends, στην παρουσίαση του πρώτου ελληνικού single malt whisky. Μια παρέα 9 φίλων, με πολύ μεράκι, αγάπη για τον βασιλιά των αποσταγμάτων και διάθεση να κάνει το όνειρό της πραγματικότητα, μετά από πολύ κόπο (και κυρίως γραφειοκρατία), τα κατάφερε!

Στους 60 αλκοολικούς βαθμούς, παλαιωμένο σε 6 βαρέλια που φιλοξενούσαν Vinsanto Σαντορίνης, και σε 311 αριθμημένες φιάλες, το ουίσκι δεν έχει να ζηλέψει τίποτα από αντίστοιχα αποστάγματα. Αν προσθέσεις μία ή το πολύ δύο σταγόνες νερό στο ποτήρι σου, στρογγυλεύει, βγάζει πολυπλοκότητα και πραγματικά γίνεται πάρα πολύ καλό. Σύκο, σοκολάτα, φουντούκι, μέλι και λίγο καφές, ξύλο και ίσως λίγο πιπέρι είναι ορισμένα από τα γευστικά του χαρακτηριστικά.

Στην υγειά σας Whisky Friends, περιμένουμε με χαρά τα επόμενα!

The first Greek whisky is now a reality!

I happily accepted the invitation of The Whisky Friends, to the presentation of the first Greek single malt whisky. A group of 9 friends, with a lot of passion, love for the king of spirits and a willingness to make their dream come true, after a lot of effort (and mainly bureaucracy), they finally made it!

At 60% ABV, aged in 6 casks that hosted Vinsanto Santorini, and with 311 numbered bottles, the whisky has nothing to envy from similar spirits. If you add one or at most two drops of water into your glass, it gets rounded and complex at the same time and it really becomes exceptionally good. Fig, chocolate, hazelnut, honey and a little coffee, wood and maybe a little pepper are some of its flavor characteristics.

An Ardbeg night with the Greek Whisky Association

Aurora is the name of the northern lights also known as aurora borealis and can be also seen in northern Scotland. Wolfburn Whisky distillery is in Thurso, Caithness, being the most northerly whisky distillery on the Scottish mainland.

Here we taste Wolfburn Aurora, made of a combination of bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks. In the label we see Sherry oak, but the color is more of a bourbon cask.

There are nice vanilla and honey aromas and maybe some lemon.

When you taste it, you get spices, pear, vanilla, and a little honey. Do I find raisins, red fruits, or cinnamon due to the sherry casks? No, because the whisky being quite young, probably between 4-6 years old, the sherry casks haven’t given yet any of these characteristics το the whisky. You get a bit of a woody and bourbon flavor, because the refill bourbon casks are dominant. It tastes like cask-strength, it slightly burns, though the alcohol is 46%

The aftertaste is short and you get spices and a bit of sweetness.

It’s not a bad whisky, but it could have been way better. Maybe it should stay longer in the Sherry oak casks, so as to gain these relevant aromas.
