‘All I want is to make wines that speak to the pallate’
This is one of the favourite lines of Apostolos Lykos and it goes a long way in explaining his involvement in wine making. His passion can somewhat be explained by the fact that he was born and raised in Malakonda, a small village close to LilantioPedio, an area renowned for its long tradition in vineyards and wine-making. However, Apolstolos
went many steps further and, along with his father, started a winery which ever since its humble beginnings, in 1989, has been expanding into the international markets. Promoting this winemaking village onto the international markets
When Dimitris Lykos, third generation wine maker, talks about his involvement in the winery, you witness his dedication, his passion and his long term vision. A vision which encompasses the whole family working together to ensure that the winery reaches into the next generations. Anyone tasting one of our wines bears witness to the fact that our hard work and pride in what we do are evident in every bottle bearing our label. The life of Lykos family revolves around our winery and wines. Our winery produces around 300.000 bottles per year. Half of it red and the other half white. We have vineyards producing Malagousia, Agiorgitiko and Assyrtiko but we also have ones producing Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Viognier and Syrah. Our philosophy is to allow the character of each variety show in the final product and use the freshness of the fruit along with its lasting aftertaste as a trademark for our winery. Apostolos Lykos has always been a firm believer in the “land of ideas”. That courage, determination and hard work will eventually be rewarded. This has also been our belief as a family and working together, we look to the future. We make the future, united and determined to leave nothing to chance. Vineyard (Cabernet Sauvignon Bio)
A 40-year-old vineyard, at 400m elevation, rewards us with its fruit, bio grapes, yielding around 300-400 kg an acre. We practice long maceration and skin contact up to the end of fermentation. The wine is then kept for 20 months in new and once used French oak barrels. Vineyard (Μαλαγουζιά)
One of our most beautiful vineyards sits at the southernmost tip of our island and for the past 15 years has been producing a truly unique Malagousia, helped by the sea breeze typical of this area. Vineyard (Assyrtiko)
At a 350-metre altitude, low yield grapes allow us to use barrels in producing Assyrtiko, an internationally recognized variety we have been producing passionately in the past years.
Αμπελώνες (Kratistos)
This is how the beginning was made. Kratistos, a wine that became the vision of Apostolos Lykos. When you offer all your love and care, your creation becomes your reflection. A special Nemea, such as the character of the winery, that excels and stands out. The certain thing is that when you taste it, you will remember it forever. https://www.google.gr/maps/place/LYKOS+WINERY+-+LYKOS+WINES+-+%CE%9F%CE%99%CE%9D%CE%9F%CE%A0%CE%9F%CE%99%CE%95%CE%99%CE%9F+-+%CE%9B%CE%A5%CE%9A%CE%9F%CE%A3+-+%CE%95%CE%A1%CE%95%CE%A4%CE%A1%CE%95%CE%99%CE%91/@38.403291,23.7491013,17z/data=!4m13!1m7!3m6!1s0x14a16b4c5ff46e05:0xdb0c5cf42bf6ae94!2zTFlLT1MgV0lORVJZIC0gTFlLT1MgV0lORVMgLSDOn86Zzp3On86gzp_Omc6VzpnOnyAtIM6bzqXOms6fzqMgLSDOlc6hzpXOpM6hzpXOmc6R!3b1!8m2!3d38.403291!4d23.75129!3m4!1s0x14a16b4c5ff46e05:0xdb0c5cf42bf6ae94!8m2!3d38.403291!4d23.75129
