HOW WE BEGAN
Our family began raising quail in 2020 with the goal of food security for our family and friends. Since then, my husband and I decided to utilize our combined previous work experience and personal strengths to form a business we can operate together, and provide something that Maui needs. Initially this provides a source of work for my family, and as we grow we will be able to create
jobs for others as well. As of January 2021, Kihei Poultry LLC has been officially in operation. As interest and community support increased, we moved forward with our first expansion, tripling our production of quail meat and eggs. WHAT WE DO
At Kihei Poultry we hatch, raise, process, package and deliver the poultry meat and eggs, as well as handle the majority of the labor, marketing, accounting, etc. As we grow we will hire employees and crosstrain to assist. Kihei Poultry LLC operates under a USDA approved exemption to sell meat, and FDA inspects eggs before delivery. SELF SUSTAINABILITY
At Kihei Poultry, one of our goals towards optimizing our self-sustainability is to include rainwater catchments later this year to further help with operating costs. We purchase as much of our supplies as possible locally to do what we can to infuse Maui’s economy directly. HIGH QUALITY PRODUCTS
Providing the best quality of life to our birds is very important to us. We do not raise our quail in industry standard coops, but utilize large walk-in aviaries outdoors on pasture. Our quail free range and forage with fresh air and sunshine, within the safety of their aviary as dogs, cats, mongoose and even rats are dangerous predators to quail. WE ARE GROWING
In 2021 we added chickens and ducks to our flocks! They have plenty of room in multiple large aviaries to sleep and escape any rainstorms, complete with roosting perches and nesting boxes. They frequently free range in the pastures, chasing and eating bugs to their hearts desire. WHAT'S NEXT
With each expansion of our flock, fresh poultry meat and eggs becomes more widely available to the community. However, the upfront cost of hatching and raising more birds means 2-3 months of higher expenses before more product is ready. After 1 year of use, our mobile aviary coops are ready for either minimal repairs, or a few upgrades that will make them sturdier and last much longer. We are in this all the way, working hard, and humbly acknowledging that sometimes we need kokua (help). https://square.link/u/QbEbtOvZ
