VDP membership was granted in 1993. Stephan and Sabine – Werner’s son and daughter became co-owner since 2005. As early as 1948, as one of the first vintners in the region, Heinz Knipser started bottling wine and marketed it directly to private clients and gastronomy. In the early 70s his son Werner became the first full-time vintner and the business has since flourished and seen continuous growth
. In the mid 80s today’s owners Volker and Werner Knipser started barrique vinification. They also increased the share of grapes for red wine by sourcing classic domestic and universal varieties from the very best origins. The yield is considerably lower than the region’s average to be in line with global premium wine producers. In 1993 this thriving for quality has been rewarded by being granted membership to the VDP (Association of German Quality Wine Estates dedicated to producing premium wines). Since 2005 Werner’s oldest son Stephan Knipser became co-owner of the estate and was joined in 2009 by his sister Sabine.
