Just a little bit about my Dad and his beehive! His name is Daithī and he has farmed the family land all his working life. Conventional farming in the main, such as dry stock cattle, sheep and in more recent years tillage farming. For no particular reason, other than he took a notion earlier this year that he would like a beehive, and so he did something about it! He has been on a steep learning curve, made a few mistakes along the way, but delighted to have made the leap. His first batch of honey harvested him a modest haul, but a very tasty one all the same!
And this first batch is what is available in the honesty hut. The hive itself is in the small paddock in front of the thatch cottage. He plans to continue producing honey and he is hoping to increase his number of hives soon 🐝🍯

Trays of 30 eggs available from the honesty huts. Believe it or not, eggs have a shelf life of 28 days!… But they won’t last that long!

It is a privilege to hear these soft rhythmic sounds made by the hens at night.
Warblings and purring from hens at night (also called trilling) are signs of contentment, trust, and safety. When chickens make these low, continuous rumblings or vibrating sounds, they feel secure in their flock and environment. Hens frequently trill right before sleeping to signify that their basic needs for comfort and security are met. This soft communication helps maintain calm and strengthens the social structure within the group.
It really is one of natures many wonders.
