Our Bespoke Precast Division had an interesting task on their hands recently, with the production of roof sections for a medical building for Alliance Medical.

Broomfield Construction needed a custom roof system satisfying three key criteria:

Ultra-dense precast concrete capable of absorbing continuous radiation.
Precision units designed to seal tightly while allowing future machinery access.
Custom joint configurations that block straight-line radiation paths to eliminate shine.

Cyclotron vaults require removable roof sections for heavy equipment placement, but every joint presents a vulnerability. Traditional roof structures risk radiation streamingโ€”a phenomenon where particles escape ("shine") through gaps, compromising surrounding areas.

Each roof plug was cast under controlled conditions to guarantee consistent material density and eliminate internal voids. By partnering with Broomfield Construction, we delivered a high-performance roof system that sets a benchmark for structural reliability and radiation safety.
