Our pigs live a natural life outdoors. This means Mum lies down in a nice grassy spot for a feed. The sows make a grunting sound to alert all the piglets that it is time to suckle. This lasts 1-3mins to give each piglet time to get to a teat. The piglets massage first and then 20 secs before let down the grunting changes. The piglets now suck for milk which lasts for 15-20secs roughly. (Kasanen and Algers, 2002).

Let me introduce myself- my name is Fiona and after living abroad for 22 years I returned to my home area of Ovens Co. Cork in 2020. We have 28 acres on the banks of the River Lee, 10 of which are native woodland. We have nearly completed renovating an old cottage. We decided that pigs would be a good fit for clearing the land and high welfare pork . We choose Kune Kune’s as an introduction to keeping pigs due to their docile, curious and friendly nature and we are certainly learning every day. Our pigs are part of the family - receive the best of care and would make an ideal addition to your small farm if you are interested in getting started.
