Last months work trip to France with my colleague Laurent. September brought us to La Rochelle and Marennes. It’s always good to meet customers before the mussel market kicks off and before the Christmas Oyster madness commences. We met 13 customers over the 3 days and we learned an awful lot. It’s important to understand each customer’s needs as they are all completely different! It’s our job to then find the perfect farmer for each customers specific requirements. I’m looking forward to the next trip already 🇫🇷

Normal trestles took a beating in yesterday’s blow 💨🌊 I’ve had pins made up to hold the trestles with the floating bags in place. I was worried when there was enough swell and the bags were floating, the trestles themselves would take off! As you can see, the pins have worked perfectly!

Did you know that oyster farming only makes up about 10% of my day job? Trading shellfish, mainly Mussels and Oysters is my bread and butter.
My main export market is France, but I also sell to Italy, Holland, Spain and the UK.

Today I had a farm visit in Kilmakilloge, Co.Kerry to check the stock for the coming season. As you can see, they are beauties. Clean shells and good meats, exactly what the market wants 🔥 These meats are up on 30%, from Class A waters 😇 The best of Irish organic produce.
