🐟 ??? Guess Who ??? 🐟

It’s the most consumed tuna species in the world — although most people only ever see it in a can.

Found in warm waters across the globe, a small European fishery exists around the Azores, where it is traditionally pole-and-line caught and renowned for its exceptional quality.

For the first time ever, after all these years, we have it available fresh on the counter.

Can you guess the species?

Available this week only at Gannet Fishmongers.

The Happy Chef 👨‍🍳

Atilla from Aniar Galway was at Gannet HQ earlier and somehow convinced us to part ways with this magnificent Spider Crab 🦀 for his tasting menu…

We don’t usually supply restaurants, but we know how difficult it can be to source such amazing niche seafood through the wholesalers — so when we’re asked nicely, we’re always happy to help 😉

Fresh from the West coast, straight into the hands of a chef who appreciate beautiful foods and who is not afraid of hard work.

Did you hear us on the radio? 🙄
Last Saturday we spoke with Lorna Siggins on RTÉ Radio Seascape about the current state of the fish supply in Ireland… and as you can imagine, we had plenty to say.

That conversation has since taken on a life of its own, with a live interview this morning on Newstalk’s Claire Byrne Show and coverage in several newspapers under the catchy headline:

“Everyone thinks we are nuts allowing our seas to be raided…”

Except… that’s not actually what I said. My words were:
“Everyone in the EU thinks we are nuts the way we are managing our fisheries…”

There’s a big difference. Not to take anything away from our disastrous relationship with Europe when it comes to fishing quotas, but Europe cannot be blamed for everything. Our seas are barren, our piers are empty, after years of misguided management — still ongoing —
and that responsibility is ours… not the EU… and I thought I would clarify this…

Something has to change. 🎣🇮🇪 and that change needs to start in Dublin if we want to be taken seriously at a EU level…
