We become who we are through the examples we follow.

The lessons that matter most are rarely taught. They are lived.

This Father's Day, honour the fathers, grandfathers and mentors who showed us resilience, courage and integrity.

Every bottle of Black Alpha Irish Whiskey carries a story and supports veteran causes.

One of the first details from the Operation POSTMASTER 1942 release: the individually numbered challenge coin.

Every element has meaning. The wings and parachute nod to SOE operations, the Fairbairn-Sykes dagger sits at the centre, and the compass points reflect navigation, planning and mission focus.

Hidden within the design are the Morse code numerals 6 and 4, referencing 64 Baker Street, the wartime headquarters of the Special Operations Executive. The broken outer ring symbolises the anchor chains severed during Operation POSTMASTER using explosives.

Each coin is individually numbered to match its corresponding bottle and edge engraved with SET EUROPE ABLAZE - the phrase attributed to Winston Churchill's wartime instruction to the newly formed SOE.

Limited to 220 editions.

Our thanks to Challenge Coins UK for helping bring this concept to life and producing a coin worthy of the story it represents.

More components from the presentation package will be revealed soon.

The Irish Lion

Pictured here is War Years Remembered founder David McCallion presenting a bottle of The Irish Lion to Bruce Crompton in front of the Blair Mayne exhibition at the museum.

Created in collaboration with War Years Remembered and with the blessing of the Mayne family, The Irish Lion was inspired directly by history connected to Blair Mayne.

The design draws on original material held within the museum's archive, including Blair's own 1938 British & Irish Lions tour itinerary, complete with his handwritten notes and match results from the tour. Even the colours on the front label take their inspiration from the original Lions touring material.

For us, the history is part of the provenance. It doesn't sit alongside the whiskey, it sits within it.

This project was never simply about producing a bottle. It was about helping tell a story, preserving a legacy, and supporting those who dedicate themselves to protecting our shared history.

£5 from every bottle sold supports War Years Remembered and its work to bring this history to the public, while £1 supports Combat Stress, helping veterans today.

Our thanks to David and the team at War Years Remembered for trusting us with such an important piece of history, and to Bruce for taking the time to visit and support the museum.

The Special Operations Executive was formed in 1940 to conduct espionage, sabotage, and covert operations behind enemy lines across occupied Europe and beyond.

It was not designed for spectacle or conventional warfare. Its purpose was quieter than that, to remove problems discreetly, through intelligence, deception, and carefully controlled force.

From offices at 64 Baker Street, SOE directed operations carried out by small teams working in secret, often with little chance of survival if discovered.

One of the clearest examples of that approach was Operation POSTMASTER.

This summer, Black Alpha releases a commemorative single cask Irish whiskey marking the 80th anniversary of the disbandment of the SOE.

Triple distilled - Bottled at cask strength - Limited release.

Further details on the commemorative presentation package will be released shortly. Pre-orders open June 2026.

PTSD Awareness Day takes place on 27 June and is dedicated to raising awareness of post-traumatic stress disorder and its impact.

PTSD can affect anyone who has experienced trauma, including veterans and their families. PTSD Awareness Month helps increase understanding of the causes, symptoms and treatment available.

Donations play an important role in helping charities provide vital support and treatment. Just £43 could fund a veteran’s call to a mental health helpline, helping them take the first step towards support.
