🎙️ Missed this week’s radio health slot?

With children heading back to school, we started this week with a very timely question – should we be doing anything to support their immune systems as they adjust to school and the inevitable season of coughs and sniffles?

We also talked about constipation in a fussy teenager and some simple ways of getting more fibre into the diet when fruit, vegetables and wholegrains aren't exactly top of the menu!

🫁 Another listener with COPD wanted advice on dealing with persistent phlegm and keeping the chest clear. We discussed why preventing mucus from becoming thick and difficult to clear can be particularly important with COPD.

🦴 And finally, when should women have a DEXA scan? We talked about the changes in bone density around menopause, why having a baseline measurement can be useful, and the important roles of nutrition and weight-bearing exercise in maintaining strong bones as we get older.

🎙️ **Missed this week’s radio health slot?**

We had another really interesting mix of listener questions this week.

💊 **Can you take too many supplements?** We looked at whether combining vitamin D, fish oils, probiotics and cholesterol supplements could be too much – and why more isn't necessarily better when it comes to vitamins and supplements.

🌿 We talked about **diverticulitis and bowel health**, including why keeping bowel movements regular is so important.

🌸 A listener in her 70s asked about **persistent vaginal dryness, soreness and itching after menopause**, particularly when prescribed treatments haven't helped.

☀️ We also discussed **vitamin D with vitamin K** – why they're often taken together and what to look for when choosing a supplement.

🫁 And finally, a particularly important question about **recurrent chest infections during bowel cancer treatment**. We discussed why you need to be especially careful with herbs and supplements during chemotherapy and why treatments that might normally be appropriate aren't necessarily safe during cancer treatment.

🎙️ **Missed today’s radio health slot?**

We had another great selection of listener questions today, covering everything from hair loss and surgical recovery to stomach health and an incredibly itchy scalp.

💇 One listener was experiencing **hair loss while taking a long course of antibiotics** – we discussed the difference between poor hair quality and actual hair shedding, and why that distinction matters when choosing a supplement.

🦶 We also looked at **recovery after keyhole ankle surgery**, including nutritional and natural support for healing, inflammation and damaged cartilage.

🦠 Another question focused on **what to do after treatment for H. pylori**. We talked about digestion, restoring beneficial gut bacteria and why fermented foods, probiotics and digestive support may be worth considering.

🧴 And finally – that frustrating **itchy scalp that won't go away**. Is it dandruff or could something in your shampoo actually be triggering the problem? We discussed some of the common ingredients worth checking on the label.

One of the key messages was that identifying the underlying cause is often the first step to finding the right solution. 🎙️ Missed this week's radio health slot Cork 103FM July 20th?

This week we answered listeners' questions on some very common health concerns, including persistent acid reflux, hormonal acne, eczema, and that frustrating feeling of mucus in the throat.

One of the key points we discussed was how important it is to identify the cause of a symptom before choosing the right approach. For example, mucus in the throat may originate from post-nasal drip, the chest, or even reflux from the stomach—each requiring a different strategy.

If any of these topics sound familiar, have a listen to this week's recording where I explain the possible causes, natural health approaches, and practical tips that may help.

As always, thank you to everyone who sent in their questions. If there's a health topic you'd like covered on a future show, leave a comment below or send us a message.
