אני מנסה לנצל את הפסקת האש כדי להשלים את העבודה שלא הצלחנו לעשות כשהטילים נפלו. כמובן, בחקלאות אין דבר כזה “להשלים פערים”. הצמחים לא יכולים לחכות שיטפלו בהם.
כשאין מספיק ידיים לעשות את העבודה, נגרם נזק, מחזור הצמיחה נפגע, ואנחנו פשוט צריכים להתחיל מחדש.
כל שלבי התהליך קשורים ותלויים אחד בשני.
לא הצלחנו לרסס בזמן. כתוצאה מכך, צמחי המלפפון שהיו אמורים להניב עוד הרבה מלפפונים כבר לא יכולים. לכן, כל מה שנותר לעשות הוא לקטוף את המלפפונים הטובים האחרונים, לעקור את הצמחים שהגיעו לסוף חייהם מוקדם מדי, ולשתול חדשים.
כרגע, החממה נראית נורא. הפסקת האש מאפשרת למתנדבים להגיע ולעזור. אין לנו מושג כמה זמן זה יימשך, אבל נעשה מה שאפשר בזמן שיש לנו, ואני מודה על העזרה שהם נותנים.

I’m trying to use the ceasefire to catch up on the work we couldn’t do when the missiles were falling. Of course, in farming, there is no such thing as “catching up.” The plants cannot wait to be taken care of.
When there aren’t enough hands to do the work, damage occurs, the cycle of growth is broken, and we simply have to begin again.
Every stage in the process is connected and dependent on the other stages.
We couldn’t apply the pesticides at the right time. As a result, cucumber plants that should have produced many more cucumbers cannot. So the only thing left to do is pick the last of the good cucumbers, pull out the plants that have prematurely reached the end of their lives, and plant new ones.
At the moment, the greenhouse looks awful. The ceasefire is allowing volunteers to come and help. We have no idea how long this will last, but we will do what we can with the time we have, and I am grateful for the help they give.
When we clean up the greenhouse and plant new cucumbers, it will again look wonderful.

מתנדבים מופלאים עדיין רוצים לבוא לסייע לי, במיוחד בתקופה הקשה הזו. כמובן שהם רוצים לדעת אם יש מיגון. למזלי, בחממות הקרובות לבית יש מיגון ממש ליד. בחממות הרחוקות המקלט רחוק יותר, אבל בזכות ההתראה המקדימה אפשר להגיע בזמן. הכנתי את הסרטון כדי שתראו מה עושים בזמן אזעקה.

Farmers face a challenge in this war that most other people don’t have. Our work is outside, and it can’t wait. We brave sirens and missiles, even when there is no place to take shelter.
I am lucky that one of my plots has a shelter very close by. The other greenhouses, on the far side of Tzrufa, are farther from a shelter.
Even now — especially now — volunteers want to come and help. Naturally, they want to know if there is a shelter nearby, so I made this video to show what it’s like to get to the shelter from the further greenhouses.
When Iran fires missiles, we usually have about 10 minutes’ warning. We can reach the shelter in less than two. It’s not ideal, but we can protect ourselves, and that means volunteers can still come.

בגלל המלחמה עם איראן, מסוכן מדי למתנדבים להגיע ולעזור לנו.
בשטח אין אזור מוגן.
אבל את המלפפונים עדיין צריך לקטוף, לארוז ולשלוח לחנויות.
זה לא פשוט, אבל אנחנו מסתדרים. איכשהו.

Because of the war with Iran, it’s too dangerous for volunteers to come help us.
In the fields, there is nowhere to shelter from incoming missiles — not from Iran and not from Hezbollah.
But the cucumbers still need to be harvested, packed, and shipped to the stores.
It isn’t easy, but we are managing. There’s no other option.

בישראל, מלפפונים הם יותר ממלפפונים.
כי האדמה שלנו היא חלק בלתי נפרד מהזהות שלנו.
מתנדבת שלחה לי סרטון שהיא יצרה משיחה בין טובה מקדומים, שמובילה קבוצת מתנדבים מסורים המסייעים לחקלאים בכל רחבי הארץ, לבין אופיר לקט ישראל Leket Israel על התנדבות, חקלאות, קהילה, איך הכול מתחבר יחד – ולמה זה כל כך חשוב.
כי מלפפונים הם יותר ממלפפונים – והעם הזה פשוט נפלא.

In Israel, cucumbers are more than cucumbers.
Because the land is integral to our identity.
Here a volunteer sent me a video she made of a conversation between Tova from Kedumim, who leads a group of dedicated volunteers that help farmers all over the country, and Ofir from Leket about volunteering, agriculture, community, how they all come together, and why they matter so much.
Because cucumbers are more than cucumbers – and our people are wonderful people.

העם הזה, כמה טוב שהוא כזה!
אנשים טובים, מכל הגילאים, מכל המגזרים באים לעזור לי.
איזו תחושה נהדרת :-)

We have a fantastic nation! People of all ages and from all sectors of society come to help me. What a wonderful feeling!

אחד המתנדבים צילם אותי בסוף יום עבודה. תראו :-)

I had FIFTY volunteers in one day, and they helped me enormously!

One of them filmed me at the end of the day, thanking them. I explained that this was just one day in the work I do every day, and this experience can give them a glimpse of what it was like for me when, at the beginning of the war, I had to do the same amount of work, but there was no one to help me.

It’s extraordinary when volunteers come, work with all their heart, hug me, and tell me, “Omri, you are not alone!”

כל שבוע מביא איתו חוויות חדשות ואנשים חדשים.
בשבוע שעבר, משמר הגבול – מחוז חוף – הגיעו למשק שלי — לא כי משהו היה לא בסדר, אלא כי משהו היה נכון.
מישהו החליט שכדאי שהם יקדישו כמה שעות להתנדבות חקלאית. שזו תהיה חוויה מגבשת. שזה יעשה טוב לנשמה.
בהתחלה, חלק מהם התנגדו, ואפילו היו קצת כעוסים שנידבו אותם לעבודה שלא שלהם. אבל אחרי שהראיתי להם את המשק והסברתי למה מה שאנחנו עושים חשוב — איך החקלאות לא רק עוזרת להאכיל את עם ישראל אלא גם מגינה על אדמתנו — הגישה שלהם התחילה להשתנות.
הם עבדו קשה. הם עבדו, בהתלהבות, מכל הלב. בסוף היום הם לא עזבו לפני שחיבקו אותי והבטיחו לחזור, ולהביא איתם חברים.

עכשיו מתחיל שבוע חדש. נראה אילו חוויות ואילו אנשים חדשים הוא יביא!

Every week brings new experiences and new people.
Last week, Israel’s Border Police (Magav Hof District) came to my farm — not because something was wrong, but because something was right.
Someone decided they should spend a few hours volunteering in agriculture. That it would strengthen their unit cohesion. That it would be good for their souls.
At first, some of them were resistant, almost antagonistic. They felt they had been brought to do work they hadn’t signed up for. But after I showed them the farm and explained why what we are doing matters — how agriculture not only helps feed the people of Israel but also protects our land — their attitude began to change.
They worked hard, and they worked with joy. By the end of the day, they didn’t leave until they had hugged me and promised to return, bringing friends with them.
Now it’s a new week. We’ll see what new experiences and new people it brings 😊
