First, let’s start by cooking our Aattukaal. 🐐

Now add the cleaned and cut Aattukaal, along with salt and turmeric. Cook everything together for another 2 minutes...

Add 2 cups of water, close the cooker and cook for 8-10 whistles, or until the Aattukaal becomes soft and well cooked...

While our Aattukaal is cooking, let’s prepare the delicious coconut masala. 😋

Add some water and grind everything into a smooth paste. Keep it aside...

Now let’s prepare the tadka that gives our paya so much flavour. ✨

Heat 1/2 tbsp peanut oil in a pan. Add fennel seeds, onions and ginger garlic paste...

Sauté for about 3 minutes until the onions start becoming soft.
Add a handful of mint leaves, followed by tomatoes, chilli powder, garam masala and salt.
Sauté everything together for 3-4 minutes, or until the tomatoes become soft and mushy...

Finally, it’s time to bring everything together! ❤️

Add the prepared coconut masala, water and the tadka to the cooked Aattukaal...

Add salt if needed and mix everything really well...

Close the cooker and cook for 3 whistles so all those flavours come together beautifully...

Once the pressure is released completely, open the cooker and add freshly chopped coriander leaves...

Tadaaa! Our delicious Aattukaal Paya is ready! 🤤❤️

Serve it hot with Idli, dosa, chapathi, aapam or idiyappam and enjoy..
