Have you tried the burger at Saad Patel in Andheri?

Welcome to another lost episode of Burger Wars and it’s another under 500₹ smash burger. I think the burger game in Mumbai is quite strong and we are getting a lot of proper smashed burgers 🍔. Sometimes they pop up in the unlikeliest of places but am glad to see this burger revolution despite being restricted to buffalo meat. Let me know if you tried these guys burgers.

📍 Ahuja Lamor Apartments, Raghvendra Mandir Road, besides, Oshiwara, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400102
They open at 6:30pm

280₹ vs 400₹ vs 520₹ Chicken Lollipops!

We have been hearing stories of red lollipops turning brown and I have to be honest. It’s like the soul has been sucked out of the dish. Even though the colour doesn’t add any flavour it’s definitely missed by me. Anyway let me know who makes the best chicken lollipops according to you.

Have you been to Vincenzo Capuano India yet?

First up. Booking is easy. Use the link in their bio and book whatever is available. Super easy and hassle free. We managed to get a 2:45pm booking for 8 people. Their kitchen shuts at 3:30pm so I had my order ready and waiting. Service was good except that everything came too fast. But spoke to them and they will work on that.

Food wise I skipped most apps because everything is quite bread heavy and I wanted to try more of their pies. The pizza is great. The dough is unique and no one has a pie like this in the city. There is a separate section on the menu for those who need chicken or masala on their pizza. The rest of the menu is classic and I love that. Pork is the star of the show and everything from the Mortadella to the sausage to the meatballs was good. I made the mistake of not ordering a tomato based pie (got lost in the pork) so will have to go back to try one of those but given the flavour of everything I expect to enjoy it.

If you’ve been, let me know your experience. This is proper Italian food not adjusted to appease the Indian taste buds and I’m glad we’re getting the authentic taste of Italy.

Have you been to BNDRA:W and tried their burger?
Bndra West
I got to be honest, every restaurant that has been in this location has been mid to say the least. But when I saw the menu of BNDRA:W it looked pretty exciting, dishes like lobster roll, bone marrow and much more. They also had a burger on the menu. So I head on over to give it a try. Will they break the curse of just being another mid restaurant on this corner of Bandra? Watch the episode and find out.

Did this fun collab with Nalin where I took him to eat his first meat burger. And for they we had to go to O Pedro for their Burger Wars winning burger. Let’s just say he fell in love with it and I think he will be eating a lot more real burgers 😉

Have you been to the newly opened JÙUN in Churchgate?

This is a newly opened Cantonese spot in the Eros theater building and since Samantha Marietta Noronha (ex-Mumbai Foodie) is involved the expectations were high. Before we get to the food I will say the service, while good for the most part on our table, seemed to be a bit strained. You could see the staff struggle. Our billing took way more time than it should have. But hopefully since they are just a month old they should be able to iron out these issues.

Let’s talk about the food. I think I pretty much said everything in the video but here are a few extra notes. The dumplings are served in 3s but it’s great that you can have an extra one added (for a price of course). The bone marrow claypot rice is excellent but my suggestion is mix the marrow in to add that extra richness. Also don’t let it sit for too long because the sticky sauces can burn since they have lots of sugar. So let them serve it to you asap. Both pork dishes taste quite similar so don’t get both, I’d recommend the one with the buns. The prawn toast needs to be fully reworked to be more generous and that truffle mayo I really don’t like. A little truffle oil to finish would be far better.

When it comes to Chinese food I think we’re quite familiar with the taste and it’s unlikely that you will be blown away but Juun is on par with places like Royal China and Hakkasan when it comes to the quality of the food. With slightly more confident service I think they will be great. Have you been there yet? What’s your review?

I understand why people are scared of raw meat. But I’ve been eating raw beef/buffalo in Mumbai since the 90s and in 30 years I’ve never fallen ill. But I have got sick eating other vegetarian foods and other cooked meats. But raw beef/buff has never let me down. I always buy my tenderloin from Joseph’s cold storage in Bandra. Anyway here is a recipe that you might never try but I suggest eating it at a few of my fav restaurants where I consider it safe like .bombay - they might change your mind. Cheers & Keep Cooking!

My new fav breakfast in Bandra! It’s at Kasper’s and it’s called Shakshuka with coddled eggs and lamb merguez sausage. My friend had the omelet with Frito and then they gave us the palmier sandwich and the Austrian pancakes on the house. Both delicious.

Who makes the best roast chicken in Bombay?

Welcome to Episode 1 of Winner Winner Chicken Dinner. We looking for the best chook in town and we are starting at La Loca Maria in Bandra. We got the Sous Vide roast chicken. We rating the birds on look, cook, seasoning, sauce and sides. The La Loca Maria one scored high on most fronts but the cook wasn’t up to scratch. The bird was slightly only the drier side, hope it was just that bird on that day. With a perfect cook it would have been a top chook.

Where should I try a roast chicken next?
