Showcased here is turmeric grown on our farm, harvested in two different batches. The yellowish powder was directly cut, dried & ground. The orangish powder was boiled before being dried & ground. The colours are no where close to the store bought one, but the smell is just heavenly. A little bit is more than enough to give the right colour & flavour to any dish.

Finally got to pruning our wildly growing cashews. And repurposed our rain water harvesting pit to double up as compost pit. The wood will be used as firewood and the resulting ash back into the farm... Even after an entire day of pruning still feels like there is a lot to be done..

It's has been raining kairis on the farm and so lots of activity around it started in tandem in the kitchen as well. We made some pickles and kairichi dal out of the raw one's today. The slightly ripe one's were used to make methamba and kairi panna yesterday.

The Konkan belt of Maharashtra is most famous for two main crops - The Alphonso mangoes and the Vengurla cashews. We have planted both these crops on our farm but they are still quite young. We also have a couple of desi cashew trees on our farm from which collect cashew currently. We generally process what we require and sell the rest as is. Pictured here are cashews sundrying and after they have been dried, ready to sell.

This was our first attempt at growing watermelons and it was fairly successful I think.
We harvested about 50-60 watermelons so far, some in the range of 10kg plus.
In hindsight, I think we made a couple of mistakes which impacted our overall produce. We started the planting in Nov, should have started earlier, We used surface irrigation method which caused a lot of water wastages and lastly most of crop was near a gliricidia fence, which caused discolouration and a sticky layer on the fruits and leaves. We still haven't figured out how to solve the gliricidia problem in the next season or even why it happens. If anyone has faced any such issues, please do provide your inputs. It will help us a lot.
