Goru Bihu: Honoring our Earthly Companions
​Goru(cow) Bihu, celebrated on the first day of the Rongali Bihu festival, is a heartfelt tribute to the livestock that forms the backbone of Assam’s agricultural life. It is a day of gratitude, where we honor the cattle for their selfless contribution to our fields and our sustenance.
​ On this auspicious morning, the cattle are taken to the rivers for a ritualistic bath with maah-halodhi (black gram and turmeric paste). They are adorned with garlands of vegetables like lau (bottle gourd) and bengena (eggplant) while we sing:
​"Lau kha, bengena kha, bosore bosore barhi ja..."
(Eat gourd, eat eggplant, and grow year after year...).

Let us celebrate the spirit of gratitude and the beauty of our traditions. Happy Goru Bihu to all!
