For most consumers, the monsoon brings relief from the summer heat.

For those involved in food manufacturing, it is also a season that tests the resilience of systems.

In agriculture-linked industries like dairy, seasonal variability influences everything, from milk procurement and transportation to cold chain management and production planning.

Over the years, one lesson has become increasingly clear: resilience cannot be built during disruptions. It has to be designed into the system long before disruptions occur.

This means investing in:
• Strong farmer relationships and local sourcing networks
• Robust cold chain and logistics infrastructure
• Data-led demand forecasting and inventory planning
• Flexible operations that can adapt to changing conditions

As climate patterns become less predictable, building resilient supply chains will no longer be a competitive advantage. It will become a necessity for every food business.

One of my early observations in manufacturing was this:

The systems that prevent problems rarely receive applause. The systems that fail always receive attention.

Machines, plants and technology are visible. But some of the most important systems in manufacturing are invisible. These include:

• Preventive maintenance routines
• Standard operating procedures
• Daily reviews
• A culture where people take ownership long before an issue escalates

Over the years, I have learned that sustainable growth is rarely the result of a single breakthrough. It is built through thousands of disciplined actions repeated consistently, every single day.

Strong systems may not always be visible, but they are the quiet strength behind every enduring organisation.

Over the last year, conversations around AI in manufacturing have moved from What is possible? to What creates measurable value?

In dairy manufacturing, this is an important shift.

Whether it is demand forecasting, supply chain planning, predictive maintenance, quality monitoring or energy optimisation, the real question is no longer whether AI can be adopted.

The question is:

Will it solve a real operational challenge and create measurable outcomes?

As manufacturing leaders, there are three questions worth asking before investing in any AI solution:

1. Does it improve decision-making?

2. Does it reduce waste, cost or inefficiency?

3. Can it scale reliably across operations?

Technology should not be implemented because it is new. It should be adopted because it strengthens systems and creates long-term value.

As India's dairy sector continues to evolve, the combination of strong fundamentals and the right technology can unlock significant opportunities for growth.

I believe AI will create the greatest impact when it is used not to replace people but to build stronger, smarter and more resilient systems.

Real sustainability is not built through campaigns or one-day conversations. It is built through everyday decisions, responsible systems and long-term thinking.

On World Environment Day, I am reminded that businesses must continue finding better ways to grow responsibly for the future.

We complain about fuel prices.
We ignore the free fuel above us. ☀️

That gap is what made me shift to solar, much before it became widely adopted in manufacturing.

Energy is not just a cost. It decides how reliably you can operate.

Over the years, I have seen how operations are affected by dependency on availability, cost and unpredictability.

I did not want Milky Mist to depend entirely on external factors.

At that time, it was not the easiest decision financially. But it was clear in direction.

Today, it gives us more control and stability.

With rising temperatures and increasing pressure on fuel, this is no longer just a business decision. It is a practical one.
